    3. Hi Terry, I looked for John Stainsby on the 1841 census for you and found him under the spelling "Stanisby" He was at Bank Top, Darlington at the home of William Dunning. Both are Tile Makers and the reference is HO107 ED3 Folio 11 Page 16. I noticed that the couple John and Ellen who you feel might be his parents, are also spelled "Stanisby" on the Ancestry.com website. If you look at their next door neighbour, there is a Mary Clement living with her family, who would be about the right age.I don't know if you have John and Mary's marriage certificate, but this would certainly give the name of John's father. Hope that this helps. 3. Hi all, I am stuck on the birth/baptism of John Stainsby, born ca 1822/25 at Northallerton, but he is in Darlington in the 1871 census as a Tile Maker. When John (1822) married Mary Clement in 1843 they named two of their sons 'John' and 'Johnson'. in 1853 and 56 and appear in the 1871 census. I have an 1841 census entry for a John and Ellen, who could be his parents, in Darlington with a son called 'Johnson' born 1838 but no 'John' born ca 1822/25.. If anyone has any knowledge of the true parents of John (1822), I would love to hear from them. Terry.

    3. Hi Martin. Thanks for the info that yu sent. I have only very recently found out about my Dawson/Dowson connection to the Stokesley area and am stil finding my feet here. As far as I can see, at the moment, none of mine married in Whitby. All marriages and Christenings were in Stokesley with just one branch travelling down the road to Ingleby Arncliffe. Thanks again.
