    3. Hi All: I am looking for the cemetary where Christopher Grayson who died in 1867 and his wife Mary who died between 1864 and 1870 are buried. They could possibly be in the cemetary at The Church of All Saints in Kirkbymoorside or else in a cemetary in the Pickering area. Would very much appreciate if someone with cemetary transcripts would check this for me. Thank you, Joan

    1. [ENG-NORTH-YORKS] Parish records for North & East Ridings of Yorkshire
    2. Hi Dave, I believe we corresponded once regarding a marriage between Ann Thompson of Richmond and John GELDART in the early 1800s. The North Riding registers are largely held at the County Record Office in Northallerton (Richmond certainly is). See their website: _http://www.northyorks.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=3134_ (http://www.northyorks.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=3134) A number have been transcribed and are available for consultation there. Some are at the Borthwick Institute in York, where they also hold an index of Yorkshire wills which they will search on request: _http://www.york.ac.uk/inst/bihr/_ (http://www.york.ac.uk/inst/bihr/) . Some parish registers have been transcribed by Cleveland FHS and are available as printed booklets; they also have numerous transcripts of MIs for various parishes. A catalogue of publications is available on their website: _http://www.clevelandfhs.org.uk/_ (http://www.clevelandfhs.org.uk/) A number of parish registers have been published in transcript by the Yorkshire Parish register Society, several are now available on CD or microfiche for purchase: _http://www.yorkshireparishregisters.com/contactus.htm_ (http://www.yorkshireparishregisters.com/contactus.htm) Not sure if this is of help. Which specific parishes are you interested in? Regards, Roz researching GELDART, JOY, WALBRAN, WRIGHT (http://www.yorkshireparishregisters.com/contactus.htm)

    1. [ENG-NORTH-YORKS] Searching for Robinson and Dixon
    2. audreyann
    3. Hi I am new to this list and my interests lie with the Robinsons from the Alne, Tollerton area and the Dixon's from Pickering. My gggrandmother was Elizabeth Dixon. She married James Robinson in York in 1847 and they, together with their family immigrated to Australia in 1862 - aged 39 and 48 (a brave thing to do at such an age). Elizabeth's death certificate shows her father's name as William and the 1851, and 1861 Census have her born Pickering about 1827. I was wondering if anyone had access to the 1841 census for the area. I found a William Pickering, blacksmith on a 1840 Pickering gazetteer. The only Dixon family that might match Elizabeth's on the IGI is the family of William and Ann: John born 1819, Ann Elizabeth born 1822, Hannah (Elizabeth named her daughter Hannah, and another Ann), and Bethia born 1827. Bethia fits Elizabeth's details but I don't think its short for Elizabeth is it? Any help would be appreciated. Audrey >From Australia -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. 3. HI David, Some of the North Yorks BTs are online, unindexed, at a new part of the familysearch site http://search.labs.familysearch.org You need to register first but with the minimum of details. You may then find that the site tells you that after registering you will be sent an e.mail as confirmation but I have not yet received such an e.mail after 2 weeks of using the site. So just shut down the site after registering, then re-open the site and it should allow you to begin using the site without problem. Once you log in you will go forward to the next page where at the bottom right of the page is a link to Vital Records which inludes - England, Diocese of Durham Bishop's Transcripts ca. 1700-1900. That link takes you forward to a list of counties covered by that heading and amongst them is York which includes parts of North Yorkshire at least, I doubt it includes other of the Ridings of York because these BTs are those that came under the Bishop of Durham's jurisdiction. Using the above site I have found that the LDS, in their usual wisdom when it comes to English Counties, have put some of Newcastle Upon Tyne's records under the Count of Durham, but other Newcaslte Upon Tyne records are under Northumberland. So always check all counties for what they each contain because your place of interest could be listed under the wrong county. I found under County Durham that Darlington St. Cuthbert's records are listed under Darlington but then found them again under Parlington, just one of the errors I have encountered so be on your toes with the listings. This is a trial set up on the familysearch site and they do ask for feedback on anything you find wrong or ideas on improving the site so expect things to be not quite right, but at least it is a start and I say thank goodness for the LDS. Regards Jenny DeAngelis. Spain. <<Anyone with experience of the parish records for both the North and East Ridings of Yorkshire? Are these available on-line, or are there CD's that can be purchased? 3. I have purchased a transcript of the Whitby Registers from the Family History Section of the Yorkshire Archaeological Society, Claremont, Leeds. Some for Kilnwick and Great Ayton are on the web. Sadly all of them have errors and omissions, as I can verify! These are 17, 18 and early 19 century. Also several Fam. Hist. Socs. list microfiches for sale - I have not yet sorted out just what is available, but you will be lucky to find everything you want. Good Luck, Brian Mulhall (my researches take me all over Yorkshire, into N. Lincolnshire and, probably, into Co. Durham - families moved more than we sometimes believe) On 24 Feb 2008, at 19:18, Dave Mitchell wrote: > Dear Listers > > Anyone with experience of the parish records for both the North and > East Ridings of Yorkshire? > > Are these available on-line, or are there CD's that can be > purchased? 3. Dear Sheryl, Thank you so much for your message. I'm sure that it is the family I am looking for, although his wife was Flora, not Clara and according to the marriage registration, he would have been born in 1853 not 1857. An easy mistake to make, I guess, if the headstone was becoming weathered. Another point in favour , though, is that Clara/Flora's second name was definitely Cumming. Now I can start looking for her death after 1923, a good lead for me. Best wishes Ailsa Sheryl Wilson wrote: > Dear Ailsa, > > I checked the monumental inscriptions for St. Aidans, Boosbeck and found 1 > inscription for a William Allan BROOKS.
