    3. Your Ann was born in Copt Hewick, just outside Ripon to Thomas and Hannah Thompson. Hannah was born Hannah Bransby daughter of James and Elizabeth of Catton near Topcliffe in 1836. In 1881 Ann was working as a servant in an Inn in Thirsk In 1871 Hannah with her daughters Margaret and Mary is visiting her sister Ann who is widowed and running the Black Bull in Northallerton while Thomas is in Thirsk with his sons William 1862ish and Henry 1868 I'm not sure where Ann jr was but I'll see if I can track her down Sheila -----Original Message----- From: eng-north-yorks-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-north-yorks-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Wendy Woodhouse Sent: 25 March 2008 11:04 To: Yorkshire Subject: [ENG-NORTH-YORKS] Annie Thompson married Andrew Wilkinson 1886Middledbrough I hope someone can help me I am trying to find Anns birth certificate to find the surname of her mother. On the wedding certificate she is 21 spinster married from James St at St Peters church. Her father is Thomas Thompson a farm lab.On the 91 census Annie say she was born in Ripon. This is all the info I have.I would be grateful for any help as I seem to have hit a brick wall as there are so many Thompsons arround the area. Many thanks from Wendy Melbourne Aus ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ENG-NORTH-YORKS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. I've just looked at Ripon bapts ( Holy Trinity and St Wilfred) for that period (1860-1868) and there are no children of a Thomas . Trouble is once people moved to the city they often gave the nearest town rather than the actual village of birth, 21 could just be the way they said of full age as well whereas she might be a bit older or does the census bear that out? 3. Hello all Does anyone know anything at all about Crossbeck House in Normanby near Middlesbrough? I am trying to establish who owned the place in the 1840 - 1850s. I believe that a Henry Scott-Waring lived there between the 1841 and 1851 censuses. I know it is now a children's hospice called Zoe's Place, but it the easlier history of the place that I am interested in. Thanks you. Anne from Somerset West, South Africa

    3. Hi Everyone A lot of you have probably heard about the event that we have held every 2 years in York since 2000. This year it is named Yorksgen 2008 and it is from Saturday July 5 to Saturday July 19th. You can come for one week or for both weeks. It is a chance for people from all over the world who have an interest in researching their family tree to visit the land where their ancestors came from. We have people coming from Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Germany, Canada, USA, Scotland and England. This is not part of a commercial event, its just some ordinary people trying to put this together and not for a profit. We stay in student houses near York University. A short bus ride into York. Within walking distance to Borthwick where a lot of the records are held. Each house has 10 single bedrooms, each with bed, wardrobe, desk, sink. Shared facilities include a large well equipped kitchen where we often get together for a lot of fun times. Coin laundry within a couple minutes walk. Store nearby. Charles X11 Pub nearby which is a great spot to get together for a meal, a drink, and social gathering. There is no set program that anyone has to follow. Use the facilities to sleep and do your own thing. Go to the different Archives within Yorkshire. There is a program that has been set but it is up to each individual if they want to participate in any, part, or all of it. The program includes talks, walks, trips and tours and is again based on the cost. Take a look at www.yorksgen.com and follow the links for this event. Don't worry if you are solo as many of the attendees are solo. Don't worry about your age. My mother-in-law Dorothy is coming for the 5th time and she is 83 years old. Don't worry if you don't know anyone. There are lots of new people that come each time and everyone is made to feel welcome and does feel welcome. 1. [ENG-NORTH-YORKS] Bulmer/Heartburn
    2. Valerie Williams
    3. Good day. I am researching my 3x greatgrandfather Michael Bulmer, a stone mason, who I believe was born about 1785-1790. In the 1851 census living in Holbeck, Leeds, he and his wife Elizabeth are listed; she as born in Egglescliff, Cty Durham and he as born in Tunshall, Yorkshire. Problem is, there is no "Tunshall" that I can find in Yorkshire. After discussing this with several people online, it seems most likely that it is a typo for Tunstall. Since his wife Elizabeth Hartburn is from Egglescliff it is most likely that it is the Tunstall that is part of Great Ayton parish. I also know there are other Bulmer's in this parish, and is quite close to the area where the Bulmer familiies orginated before the Norman Conquest. I have looked at the Cleveland FHS site with no luck, looked at any Great Ayton parish records online on GENUKI, again no luck. I would dearly love to find out more about my ties to this fascinating family, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Any information on Hartburn's from Egglescliff would be lovely also. Thanks! Valerie in PA, USA
