Dear Al, You are right, it is Dalton's Yard. Regarding my last question, I think I have the answer, it's Llanfoist which is a place in Wales. Can I be a complete pest and ask you if you could send me a scan of the entire page of the census entry for Thomas Wright, I'd appreciate it. If not don't worry you've done enough already.. Hi there I have an interest in Thomas Thompson in the Northallerton area (i think there were two people of that name in the same family), including Leake/Borrowby area. I believe they are linked with the Pearson and Harland families of the same area. Let me know if this is related and I can show you the rest of my tree. Colin, I think we ought to be thanking you for your tireless work on the Yorkshire Genuki pages! I am sure there are many on the various Yorkshire lists who will say "Hear, hear!" When I saw your message my heart sank - I always go to "Where is it in Yorkshire" when I'm stuck! Hi Folks, What an amazing response to my request for locations of places ! Thank you all very much. I have had a total of over 100 messages and so far managed to deal with 33 of these. I have replied to each message as I have dealt with the contents, so if you have sent me a message and not received a response, don't worry, I'll get round to it in the next week or so. I am going to my mum's house in Grinton (Swaledale) at the weekend so there will be no progress for a couple of days, but don't let that stop you sending any places you can locate :-) I have updated the lists on the three pages after about 5 grid ref additions in an attempt to avoid duplication of effort. I should have mentioned that the Grid references are used to drive the "Nearby places" links at the top of each Genuki Yorkshire parish page which links you to maps and other information. The links to the pages are: East Riding: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ERY/NoGR.html North Riding http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/NRY/NoGR.html West Riding http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/WRY/NoGR.html Thanks again, Best wishes, Colin Hinson In the village of Blunham in Bedfordshire U.K. Webmaster for the Genuki Yorkshire pages: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ Old and Rare Yorkshire Books on searchable CDroms: http://www.YorkshireCDbooks.com
Hi Folks, I wonder if any of you can help? Unusually (it's normally me being asked where places are) I am asking where places are in the modern world as opposed to 200 years ago (or thereabouts). Most of you will be aware of the Genuki "Where is it in Yorkshire" pages which contain information on all of the places mentioned on the 15,700+ Genuki Yorkshire pages. Some of these places I (and others) are unable to find in the modern world. I have generated a list of these places for each of the Ridings and any help would be appreciated. These lists are to be found on: East Riding: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ERY/NoGR.html North Riding http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/NRY/NoGR.html West Riding http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/WRY/NoGR.html If you lose the above links, then they are also to be found under "Gazetteers" on the main Genuki Yorkshire page. Please use the email address given on the relevant page (you will need to turn on scripting if you can't see it). This will avoid my spam traps. I look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, Colin Hinson In the village of Blunham in Bedfordshire U.K. Webmaster for the Genuki Yorkshire pages: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ Old and Rare Yorkshire Books on searchable CDroms: http://www.YorkshireCDbooks.com
