    3. Hi Gillian/George, Please note that the location should read "Rudd Hall" often spelt "Rud". I have a webpage dedicated to the history of Rudd Hall if anyone is interested - and would welcome any more tit-bits of information to add to the page. I have just come across some pre-1800 detail, but have not yet uploaded the amended page, so anyone interested should check in a week or so for the latest and greatest version! http://freespace.virgin.net/bob.ellerton/RuddHall.htm Thanks, Bob -----Original Message----- From: eng-north-yorks-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-north-yorks-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of R Smith Sent: 04 April 2008 19:19 To: eng-north-yorks@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-NORTH-YORKS] William Lawson and Brough Hall Hi George, I found this crossed out page on Ancestry ,1841 Appleton & Brough. Now look here for the Lawson Genealogy - (in USA) http://webpages.charter.net/bobbrownjr/BrownGenealogy/mylawson.htm UK Lawson Genealogy is here - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~daisy/lawbar.htm --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The detail reads - SIR WILLIAM (WRIGHT) LAWSON succeeded to the estates of his great uncle Sir Henry Lawson, Bart. of Burgh Hall Co. York, WHOSE NAME AND ARMS HE ASSUMED by Royal Licence 5 May 1834 and was CREATED A BARONET 8 September 1841 (NEW CREATION). Born 8 May 1796 died 22 June 1865 having married 20 October 1825 his second cousin, Clarinda Catherine, only daughter and heiress of John Lawson Esquire MD. of York, son of John Lawson Esquire of Bath and nephew of Sir Henry Lawson , 4th Bart.of Burgh Hall. She died 10 January 1861, having had five sons and five daughters. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Found them both using Google and searching for 'William Lawson, baronet' Kindest regards Al Dodd Alberta, Canada ----- Original Message ----- From: "R Smith" <r.smith45@ntlworld.com> To: <eng-north-yorks@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 04, 2008 12:18 PM Subject: [ENG-NORTH-YORKS] William Lawson and Brough Hall > Hi George, > > I found this crossed out page on Ancestry ,1841 Appleton & Brough. 3. George, >From http://www.nightbirds.demon.co.uk/family-history-researcher-census.html The date that the 1841 UK Census was taken is Sunday 6th/7th June 1841. or from - http://www.1841-census.co.uk/ The 1841 census was taken on June 6, covers midnight on June 6th and 7th. Would that help explain some of the confusion? What is the date of death for Sir Henry Lawson? This date would indicate when William Wright, Esq., the nephew could assume the name Lawson and be created a baronet in 1841. It gives a short history of Brough Hall and states that the estates devolved to a nephew, William Wright Esq. who assumed the name of Lawson and was created a baronet in 1841. It may be that you need to look for William Wright rather than Lawson in the census. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/NRY/Catterick/Catterick90.html Hope this helps.
