Veronica: The International Genealogical Index at www.familysearch.org <http://www.familysearch.org/> has the married as follows: William Elders married Patience Hutton on June 23, 1814 at Egton. Michael -----Original Message----- From: eng-north-yorks-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-north-yorks-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Vronia15@aol.com Sent: Saturday, April 19, 2008 5:41 PM To: eng-north-yorks@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-NORTH-YORKS] Marriage query - William ELDERS c1815 Hello there, I'm new to this list and wonder if anyone can help me locate the marriage of William ELDERS (born c 1773, possibly Egton) and Patience (surname unknown) some time in or before 1815. In the 1851 census Patience gives her place of birth as Lofthouse, Yorkshire (c 1781). Their children that I know of (Matthew, Isaac, John and Elizabeth) were christened in Egton between 1815 and 1823. I have had no success with IGI (online only) or Family History Online. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This entry was on a census. I think the child was about 5 mos old (can't read) and not listed as a child of the family (ie dau). I believe her to be a niece, but wouldn't it say that? Any ideas? I did do a search and found some info. Liz ************** Need a new ride? Check out the largest site for U.S. used car listings at AOL Autos. (http://autos.aol.com/used?NCID=aolcmp00300000002851)
Hi, I asked a similar question on the East Yorkshire list and then realised that although my ancestors moved to Sculcoates after the birth of their children, they married in Norton by Malton and more than likely were born in North Yorkshire. I'm trying to trace my 4x Great Grandparents John RAWLING and Christiana LAPISH, who married in Norton by Malton on 10th September 1799. They had 5 known children.... Elizabeth RAWLING (1800) m. John COURT Mary RAWLING (1803) m. Joseph REEDER William RAWLING (1806) (My 3x G Grandfather) m. Elizabeth JOHNSON Edward RAWLING (1807) m. Mary HUDSON Harriet RAWLING (1810) m. Thomas LAPISH Shortly after this the family moved to Sculcoates (Hull) where John died in 1813 and Christiana in 1831, both are buried in Sculcoates cemetery. Although I can't find a baptism or birthplace for either of them, I may have found siblings, as a William RAWLING married Harriet LAPISH in Sculcoates in 1808, I'm assuming that brothers married sisters, though I have no proof of this. Also Joseph LAPISH married Ann WARDELL in New Malton in 1804 and their son Thomas Wardale LAPISH married Harriet RAWLING (here I'm assuming that Harriet and Thomas were cousins) Does anyone recognise any of these names? Regards, Jan Holmes (nee Rawling) _________________________________________________________________ The next generation of Windows Live is here http://www.windowslive.co.uk/get-live

Recent correspondence has made me wonder wether any accessible maps exist of the old diocese. Detached parts of them appear in very unlikely places and it would be interesting to see the national picture. A trawl of the usual sites has failed to come up with anything. Maybe a lister can help. Hi Dave, The Chester connection is worth keeping in mind for future reference, as some of the church-based documentation (wills etc.) for your people might be located in the Chester archives rather than Yorkshire, as might be expected. Good luck with the hunt! Roz
My sincere thanks to Roz, Sharon and Mary Lou for your replies on my hard-to-read parish register image. I never would have guessed "Diocese" and it is a stretch but when I look closely, that's it! Much appreciated. Dave.

Hi Dave, Might the mystery word be "Diocese" of Chester? This covered an enormous swathe of the north of England. Best wishes, Roz

Hi....Sunderland is actually in Durham.....could "Durham" be the word you are looking for? Romaldkirk seems to have extended into Durham at one time though technically in the county of Yorkshire. ROMALDKIRK, a parish in the wapentake of Gilling West, and liberty of Richmondshire; 6 miles NW. of Barnard Castle. A most extensive parish, situated in Teesdale, extending from Deepdale, near Barnard Castle, to the confines of the three counties of York, Durham, and Westmoreland. This parish includes the townships of Lartington, Cotherstone, Hunderthwaite, Mickleton, Lune, Helwick, and Romaldkirk. Population, 377. If I'm off base here, hopefully someone local will elaborate. Best wishes.....mary lou **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms and advice on AOL Money & Finance. (http://money.aol.com/tax?NCID=aolcmp00300000002850)

Hello, I would like to contact Paul Radford, who sent the note below to this mailing list in February 2007. Unfortunately, his recorded email address is no longer valid, and I haven't been able to find him with an Internet search. I believe I am also descended from the John Scott and Elizabeth Blades that he mentioned. I would appreciate it if anyone has a current address for Paul, and I would be happy to hear from anyone else with an interest in the same names in the Muker/Grinton area. Thanks very much. Tom Hutchinson ------------ Begin previous message ------------- Hello Hilary, I have done some work on a line of Scott's from Whitaside in Grinton from the 1640s through to the 1750s, namely John Scott and Elizabeth Blades 1670, John Scott and Ann Raw 1708, Ralph Scott and Mary Blades 1712, Ralph Scott and Ellen Calvert 1739, John Scott and Elizabeth Alderson 1789. I also have information on some of John and Elizabeth Scott's children who moved to Ravenseat and Keld in the parish of Muker from the 1750s to around 1900, John Scott and Hannah Metcalf 1830, Charles Scott and Ann Alderson 1832 and Christopher Scott and Mary Alderson 1833. However I have found no link between this Scott family and an Appleby family. Are any of these names of any interest to you? Regards Paul Radford ------------ End previous message ----------------
Hi Everyone Just reposting some of the info that I sent a few weeks back. Just to let you know that there is still some accommodation available for either of the weeks mentioned. Please let us know ASAP if you may be interested in attending any part of our event or if you would like additional info. A lot of you have probably heard about the event that we have held every 2 years in York since 2000. This year it is named Yorksgen 2008 and it is from Saturday July 5 to Saturday July 19th. You can come for one week or for both weeks. It is a chance for people from all over the world who have an interest in researching their family tree to visit the land where their ancestors came from. We have people coming from Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Germany, Canada, USA, Scotland and England. This is not part of a commercial event, its just some ordinary people trying to put this together and not for a profit. We stay in student houses near York University. A short bus ride into York. Within walking distance to Borthwick where a lot of the records are held. Each house has 10 single bedrooms, each with bed, wardrobe, desk, sink. Shared facilities include a large well equipped kitchen where we often get together for a lot of fun times. Coin laundry within a couple minutes walk. Store nearby. Charles X11 Pub nearby which is a great spot to get together for a meal, a drink, and social gathering. There is no set program that anyone has to follow. Use the facilities to sleep and do your own thing. Go to the different Archives within Yorkshire. There is a program that has been set but it is up to each individual if they want to participate in any, part, or all of it. The program includes talks, walks, trips and tours and is again based on the cost. Take a look at www.yorksgen.com and follow the links for this event. Don't worry if you are solo as many of the attendees are solo. Don't worry about your age. My mother-in-law Dorothy is coming for the 5th time and she is 83 years old. Don't worry if you don't know anyone. There are lots of new people that come each time and everyone is made to feel welcome and does feel welcome. The cost for accommodation is 90 pounds per week, a price you cannot beat. If you have an interest or would like more information about this event, please contact me offlist. Janet Lovegrove
