Hi Amanda, You asked: .............>" trying to find the burial of a young child in Knaresborough in 1911/2. Does anyone know how I can get access to the burial records for Knaresborough cemetery."< You need to contact Stonefall Cemetery (Covers all district) Tel: 01423 883523 Fax: 01423 884151 Stonefall Cemetery Wetherby Road Harrogate HG3 1DE Office Open: 8.30am - 4.30pm Office Closed: Weekends and Bank Holidays If you live within travelling distance you could visit, in person, and inspect the registers personally, well you could a couple of years ago, excellent staff their too. However I would telephone first to check, as there has been a big shake of of provision recently. Also, the well publicized policy on headstone safety, may well have affected the situation. Hi Everyone Just reposting some of the info that I sent a few weeks back. Just to let you know that there is still some accommodation available for the 2nd week from July 12-19th. The first week is fully booked. Please let us know ASAP if you may be interested in attending any part of our event or if you would like additional info. You do not have to take part in any of our program, maybe you would just like to book a room for the 90 UK pounds and do your own thing, visit, sightseeing, etc. You cannot get a better bargain for accommodation. For more info, please check out the website: http://www.yorksgen.com/ Follow the links to the 2008 Get Together. A lot of you have probably heard about the event that we have held every 2 years in York since 2000. This year it is named Yorksgen 2008 and it is from Saturday July 5 to Saturday July 19th. You can come for the 2nd week. It is a chance for people from all over the world who have an interest in researching their family tree to visit the land where their ancestors came from. We have people coming from Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Germany, Canada, USA, Scotland and England. This is not part of a commercial event, its just some ordinary people trying to put this together and not for a profit. We stay in student houses near York University. A short bus ride into York. Within walking distance to Borthwick where a lot of the records are held. Each house has 10 single bedrooms, each with bed, wardrobe, desk, sink. Shared facilities include a large well equipped kitchen where we often get together for a lot of fun times. Coin laundry within a couple minutes walk. Store nearby. Charles X11 Pub nearby which is a great spot to get together for a meal, a drink, and social gathering. There is no set program that anyone has to follow. Use the facilities to sleep and do your own thing. Go to the different Archives within Yorkshire. There is a program that has been set but it is up to each individual if they want to participate in any, part, or all of it. The program includes talks, walks, trips and tours and is again based on the cost. Take a look at www.yorksgen.com and follow the links for this event. Don't worry if you are solo as many of the attendees are solo. Don't worry about your age. My mother-in-law Dorothy is coming for the 5th time and she is 83 years old. Don't worry if you don't know anyone. There are lots of new people that come each time and everyone is made to feel welcome and does feel welcome. The cost for accommodation is 90 pounds per week, a price you cannot beat. If you have an interest or would like more information about this event, please contact me offlist. Janet Lovegrove
Hello list, I am trying to find any information about Ada Carr, who married Tom Darley in Malton in the Sept Qtr of 1909, and their daughter Faith Darley, who was born on the 9th of August 1910. Tom Darley was my GGrandfather and Ada Carr was his 2nd wife. Unfortunately Tom passed away in 1910 before the birth of Faith and it was only through a friend of mine checking the Methodist Registers for the Malton circuit that the birth of Faith came to light and the realisation that Tom had remarried. I have a suspicion that Ada was born in 1880 in Barkston, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Carr. My only reasoning behind this is that both Tom Darley and Thomas Carr were both plate layers on the railway in the 1881 census. If anybody can shed any light on this problem I would be delighted to hear from you. Les Darley (Perth Australia)
You can order their marriage certificate online and it is posted at no extra cost to you in Australia than to anyone in the UK. I have used the service several times and I usually receive it within 2 weeks here in France so it shouldn't be a lot more than that to you. Hello Jean - could you please forward your original enquiry e-mail about Jane EDEN. I have been looking at my printed set of PRs for Kirby Knowle and there are a couple of other Janes born earlier (not through Richard and Ann though). Let me know what you have on Jane. I have a newpaper article that lists a "Deed of Separation" in 1871. Does anyone know if there is any record of deeds of separation or how to obtain one? Thanks, Ron.
Hi Janet You do not state what year you are seeking the reference for As others have said, freebmd is good up to around 1910 and patchy thereafter, although they do have the images available up to 1935 (see view images from the home page) As Ancestry co-host freebmd they also have a version on their own site which is updated a few weeks after freebmd If you want a death registration after 1935 you would need to use one of the pay per view sites (there are several) or your nearest family history society, many have the GRO on microfiche or film Failing that post the details and I am sure someone will be able to help with your request Can I ask what it is you are expecting to find on the death cert? as details can be vague sometimes and death certs may sometimes not confirm it is the person you seek (if the informant is unknown and they perhaps died at other than the home address for example) It would be a shame to go to all this trouble only to find the information you seek is not on a death cert Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > Hi Listers, > Can anyone tell me how to obtain the GRO number for a Death Certificate? > Thanks, Janet
Hi all: freeBMD I have found to be about the most reliable. Ancestry will give you the refs but they simply reproduce freeBMD information and it is not updated as frequently as the original site. I am helping in the freeBMD transcriptions and our team is currently doing 1927 births, so you may find coverage patchy after 1910 or thereabouts. If not covered one of the paid for websites like find my past is the only option for a GRO ref. The UKbmd website will tell you if your area of interest has a local authority website you might try, but bear in mind in this case you will get the local registrar's reference, so you have to apply there, not to GRO for the certificate as the refs bear no relation to one another. Even if there is no local online service, if you have sufficient details, it might be worth contacting the registrar direct (possibly by e mail) to see if they will find the certificate for you. I have had some success doing this where the GRO index is not available or insufficiently clear. Good luck and best wishes Allen Williams Sale Cheshire Sheila wrote: > I use find my past or free BMD websites, the find my past one is good up to > 2005 I think but not a free site, free BMD only until about 1910. Hi All, Just to set the records straight this is what Ancestry hold as far as the GRO Records. 1.Complete BMD Index ranges & Images 1837-1983 2.Partial FreeBMD Indexes & Images 1837-1983*** 3.Complete BMD Indexes 1984-2005 ***I believe these are the ones that are from FreeBMD. I use find my past or free BMD websites, the find my past one is good up to 2005 I think but not a free site, free BMD only until about 1910. If they were in a town then UK BMD website county links will give you any online indexes for that town. Dates are variable for all counties and towns and some are just not online yet Find my past has direct links to the GRO site. Hello Jean My EDEN family is part of this line. Have a look at the Bagby parish records. Some of my EDENs are baptized at Bagby and some at Kirby Knowle. My Richard EDEN married Ann WARE at Kirby Knowle 8 May 1720. I do not have any other children (have not worked on this family for many years) but Mark EDEN (my ancestor) who was baptized 17th June 1743. Happy Hunting. Oh boy do I need some help - please !! The following bapt entry is from Topcliffe by Thirsk PRs and dated 1778:- "Christopher 1st son of Christopher Forster of Rainton saddle tree maker son of John of Rainton saddle tree maker by Jane his wife daughter of Richard Eden of Kirby Knowle - and of Jane daughter of John Dinnis of Rainton lab: by Dorothy daughter of John Ward of Middlesmoor lab: and Ellen daughter of Thomas Walker of Flawith" If I am reading it correctly then Christopher is son of Christopher and Jane {Dinnis] and I have a marriage for them 30th Aug 1776 - Christopher was bapt 1749 at Topcliffe and Jane Dinnis 1753 at Coxwold so that's Ok The problem is with John's wife Jane dau of Richard Eden. I cannot find a marr for these two but if Jane dau of Richard Eden is correct, she was bapt 1740 in Kirby Knowle and so would have been only 9 when Christopher [1749] bapt. I had hoped she might have had an adult bap but have checked Kirby Knowle records - transcript from Cleveland & N Yorks FHS - and all Richard's children between 1727 and 1743 appear to have been bap in a regular order. I wonder did the cleric make a mistake - Jane did have a elder sister Mary bapt 1734 - a bit more likely re: age, or there was a Jane dau William Eden but she was bap 1700 and I believe she marr 1736 in Leake. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can sort this out? I would really appreciate any comments. Hello Macha Yes same family - your Mark younger brother to my Jane and, if correct, she is 4 generations back from my grandmother Margaret Forster! Parents Richard/Ann Ware but I have the marr at St Michael New Malton - same date - and K Knowle regs don't show it. Just checked Bagby on IGI but no Eden baps around right time. Like you I haven't looked at this part of family for some years but thought I would finally try and clear up the enigma of Jane. Cheers Jean
Thanks to all for input. I can rule out Jane being dau of another Eden as only Richard was having children bap during the years 1727-43. The baps are quite ordered:- 1727 Geo 1730 Thos d 173` 1731 Ricd d 1732 1734 Mary 1737 Paul 1740 JANE 1743 Mark who marr 1769 and d 1814 so seems unlikely a late bap. Maybe another [3rd] look at Topcliffe PRs is required but at Northallerton rather than LDS film - hope they have good magnification, the PRs are dreadful as were my local LDS readers, although I'm grateful for them. Thanks again Jean
