    1. Re: [N'Yorks] RE Farndale/Gillamoor churchyards
    2. Jane Jones
    3. Dear Sandra, I just found this e-mail on the list. Please forgive me for contacting you directly - I'm not yet sure of the protocol of the list as I have only just subscribed. I notice you are transcribing gravestones from the Kirbymoorside area and wondered whether you provide this service for anybody i.e. would you be able to look up some details on my family? I'm not sure if you do this out of the goodness of your heart or you require payment and if so, I am willing to pay you for your services. I have been tracing part of my family tree in Kirbymoorside but now that I have relocated to Glasgow because of my husband's job my activities in North Yorkshire are slightly limited!!! I am tracing a part of the Coverdale family who were in Kirbymoorside in the 18th and 19th century. I start with William Coverdale (born July 1800 and married to Ann Hugill in Jan 1827). I believe they lived at Bog Hall (Hole?) and were yeoman farmers. They had multitudinous children (10 at least - makes you shudder doesn't it?- I have 2 and that's plenty!) and their eldest daughter Elizabeth was my great great great grandmother. She moved away and is probably not buried in Kirbymoorside but some of her siblings might be. Their names were Job, Jane Elizabeth, Hannah, Henry, John, William, Ann, Anne (so presumably one of the Ann's died in infancy) and Mary. Again, I presume that some of the girls wouldn't have been buried with that surname. I'd be delighted to get any information on William and Ann Coverdale and any other Coverdales mentioned in the graveyards - there were many of them and each generation seemed to have the same names! Dates of deaths and relationships would be very helpful in sorting out the Coverdale mystery I have before me! I guess you are probably inundated with requests of this nautre and I wouldn't like you to go to lots of trouble of my behalf. However, if you are willing to help I would be very grateful for any information you are able to give me. Many thanks. 1. Re: [N'Yorks] Request For Help Please ?
    2. Lee, The mothers names didnt always appear on the baptism records however this wasnt the norm. It is dependednt on the vicar, for example some made notes on a piece of paper then did it at a later time some did it there and then and some did it from memory. It could be due to poor memory and I suppose it could be because mum had died. In transcribing my local parish baptisms I have found this occuring in an adult baptism however these tend to be preceeded with an age. I hope this doesnt ask more questions than it answers rob ========Original Message======== Subj: [N'Yorks] Request For Help Please ? 3. Hello, My family were DAYKINS of Arkengarthdale in the 19th century. I would be pleased to have contact with anyone connected to them. Those with an interest in Arkengarthdale may be interested to know that I have produced three works in connection with local history of the parish - Arkengarthdale in 1891 (a portrait of the dale in that period), a book of the Memorial Inscriptions of St Mary's Arkengarthdale, and a transcript of the 1891 census of the parish. If anyone is interested in obtaining a copy of any of these please e-mail me. My Father's first wife was from England and known to him from childhood, their Father's had been in business together. The thought had been that possibly this was a child she had before they married, but I have a had researcher in London who has searched for any child with her Maiden Surname, which was CHEESEBROUGH, but he has not been able to find any registration of a child with that name for that Mother. Obviously if the child's surname had to be changed to RENNEY, he was not born to my Father in any marriage situation. It almost seems that the child had to be picked up immediatly, otherwise he surely would not have taken his very pregnant wife on such a trip. Although their twins were born aboard ship, their birth certificates list Middlesbrough, N. Yorks as their place of birth and no ship mentioned at all. Maybe that was the way it was done in those days, but it keeps me from looking through ships passenger records, if I can't find the Ships name. Very Frustrating !!! Thankyou, Pam [ RENNEY ] in Arizona. --part1_25.36aeda49.2bbafe11_boundary--
