    3. Lynn, As far as I am aware there are two groups of people researching RUSSELLs in North Yorkshire. I am looking for Russells from Whitby and Jenny De Angelis is loooking for those from Northallerton. I don't immediately recognise either Hannah or James Russell in Stokesley, but you could try Jenny, in Spain, at jennyd@terra.es If you have any more information please get in touch. I'm looking for information on a Hannah RUSSELL who married a John WYLLIE from Scotland and immigrated to the U.S. Hannah was raised in Stokesley according to family information. I have located a Hannah on the IGI who was christened on 30 Jul 1816. Parents were James RUSSELL and Mary. I believe this is the correct Hannah. Family information claims that Hannah's father was a Captain lost at Botany Bay. I'm assuming that he was Navy, but have no proof. IGI does not indicate what church or parish the christening took place. Can someone lead me in the right direction for obtaining more information on this family? By any chance, is there someone on the list that might also be looking for this person? TIA. Lynn Bishop, Florida, USA ==== ENG-NORTH-YORKS Mailing List ==== ROLL CALLS? If you look at the bottom of the IGI record, you will see a reference - source - click on that it tells you that the source was the parish church. The parish church for Stokesley is St Peters & St Pauls. 3. Brilliant Pam, thank you so much for your prompt reply. My assumption that the Elizabeth Carlton who marries James Young is the one who is born in 1725 is based on the IGI where she is the only one in Hovingham who fits. Do you have the link independently? Are the Carltons in the Hovingham area for a long period prior to this? My map has Coulton for the neighbouring village, is this your Colton? Do you know anything about Thomas and Elizabeth? Are they among your ancestors? Did you come across James Young anywhere in the district? Sorry about all the questions, very excited by your reply!! The first is James Young who marries Elizabeth Carlton on 27 November 1749 in Hovingham and has 7 children: Ann (ch 13/1/1750, all in Hovingham) (this material all comes from the Parish records in Borthwick although the birth of George is unclear and hard to read), George (ch Oct 1751), Anne (ch 22/10/1752), Jane (ch 8/6/1755), James (ch 30/4/1758), William (ch 24/7/1760) and Elizabeth (ch 8/5/1763). 2. I am currently attempting to clarify (if not tie-up) a few loose ends with my interests in Catterick, particularly in Tunstall , Breckenbrough, Colburn and Hipswell. If SKS had access to the 1841 census my interest lie with BINKS COCKFIELD and STOREY , in and around the above locations at that time. Some households would go a long way to sorting a few unsolved puzzles that I have. TIA, with loose ends currently in a knot David in Derbyshire

I have a picture of my father (Frederick Floyd, born 1892 in Flaxton Yk) in an army uniform. It is not a very good picture but I can determine that his cap badge is a horse which leads me to believe that he may have been in The West Yorkshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales's Own). In his hand he is holding what appears to be a riding crop. I know that he was in Canada in 1923 and as far as I know never left so his enlistment time had to be before that. He married here in 1933 and died in 1955. Can anyone tell me how I can go about getting information about this regiment and finding out if he actually was part of it. Sure would appreciate anything anyone can tell me. > > Lillian Mayes, from Canada > > Lillian What your Father is holding in his hand is probably a "Swagger Stick" , not a riding crop. A swagger stick was used by the Infantry, a riding crop was used by the Horse Troops Cavalry. Try contacting the British Army Records, Droitwich. 3. Hello Margaret, I was looking for something similar just recently. It was suggested to me that I write either to the Records Office or the library nearest to the place where the inquest took place, with as much information as possible - names dates, place etc. It seems that most coroner's inquests were published in the local newspaper. In my case it was the Northallerton Library. They were able to give me the name of the newspaper, the edition and page number. As their film copy did not photocopy well, they sent me on to the British Library Newspaper Library, who were able to provide me with the appropriate photocopy. It was a relatively expensive exercise, but well worth it. I have the newspaper report on the event (in minute by minute detail), the coroner's report and even an account of the funeral and the names of all those who attended. Hope this helps Ailsa Petrie margaret watkins wrote: > > Hi, > I have a death certificate for a James CALVERT.
