Wendy, The 1901 census is online at the PRO website, you can search the index for free and if you find entries that interest you you can pay a fee and download the whole page, or several pages for the basic fee, this will then show you the rest of the household. Have a look at http://www.census.pro.gov.uk/ You can pay with credit/debit cards too which is helpful. for those of us outside the UK Regards Jenny DeAngelis. James SHOUT was married to Mary CRAVEN who died in Richmond on Christmas Day 1858. He then appears to have married Sarah CARTER formerly CLAYTON and had several more children, (she is recorded as the mother of children registered from 1863) The problem I face is that I can't find their marriage in PRO (I'm actually using the 1837Online facility & FreeBMD) . To make things more complex she is shown as Sarah Ann SHOUT at the registration of the death of George Clayton SHOUT (age 2) in October 1858.in Bradford I guess the logical answer is that there are two James' - but nothing else indicates this. Does anyone have any ideas such as where else to look etc regards Alan Shout seeking SHOUTs anywhere / anywhen SANDERSON Norham / North Shields 1750 - 1900 HOWELL Hartlepool 19c HUDSON South Shields 19c All outgoing mail is checked by Norton Antivirus software

Hello Laurence Annie Eliza Teasdale (my great-grandmother) daughter of Matthew & Dinah Teasdale (formerly Atkinson). > I have a Dinah Atkinson (dau. of Thomas Hugill Atkinson and Elizabeth > Chapman) b. 18 May 1837, Snilesworth, NRY (c. 23 Jul. 1837 Helmsley). I have just started to pick the bones out of this as it is very confusing for me, my family insisted that Annie Eliza was a 'Hunton'! But after ordering certificates I can prove that she was born a Teasdale, whether or not her sister, Dinah Teasdale who married Stephen Hunton (of Fangdale Beck) was her mother really is another thing all together! On Annie Eliza's birth certificate (1883) it gives the names of Matthew Teasdale and Dinah Teasdale formerly Atkinson of Breckon Hill, Bilsdale. On the 1901 census the spelling of the name Teasdale is TEASEDALE. On the 1881 census (obviously before my Annie Eliza was born) the said Teasdale where spelt TEASDLE! I don't know how many children Matthew & Dinah Teasdale had, but at least, George, Dinah, William and Annie Eliza. on 20/5/03 15:14, Laurence J. Hi! I have been pleasantly surprised at what I've been able to find in the last few weeks, but, of course, as we all know, it seems like for every one genealogical question one answers, at least 5 more questions pop up requiring answers. :o) My great-great grandfather Henry Robinson WATSON was born 7 Jul 1861 in Middleton-in-Teesdale to Robert WATSON & Ann BAINBRIDGE. According to the transcribed marriage record, Robert was the son of John Stephenson WATSON, and Ann's step-father was John WATSON. Robert & Ann were married 13 May 1847 in Middleton-in-Teesdale. Robert died before 1871, Ann (his widow) was enumerated in the 1871 Census. Residing with Ann and her children was mother Margaret ROBINSON, who had been born in Forest & Firth, Durham. Robert WATSON was baptized at St. Romald's, Romaldkirk, Yorks on 22 Jun 1828. His parents were John Stephenson WATSON & Frances WEARMOUTH. From the Censuses, I deduced that Ann BAINBRIDGE was born around 1830 in M-i-T to a mother named Margaret. The only Ann BAINBRIDGE who fulfilled the aforementioned clues that I could find in the transcribed baptismal records on the GenUKI County Durham site was the following: BAINBRIDGE, Ann bapt 23 Oct 1830, child of Margaret Of Forcegarth, Singlewoman. I would love to find more information on Margaret BAINBRIDGE -- apparently she married at least two times -- to John WATSON before 13 May 1847, and to a ROBINSON before 1871. I am assuming that BAINBRIDGE is her maiden name, since it was stated that she was a singlewoman in the transcription of Ann BAINBRIDGE's baptism. John Stephenson WATSON was born around 1801 and died before the 1851 Census. He married Frances "Fanny" WEARMOUTH 25 Jun 1825 in M-i-T. I don't at this time know who his parents were, and don't believe he was born or baptized in Middleton. According to a website I found called "Wearmouths in England", Frances was born 18 Oct 1807 to Robert WEARMOUTH and Jane BEADLE (who were married in M-i-T on 18 Nov 1787). If this sounds familiar to anyone, or if anyone has any ideas on weeding through the plethora of WATSONs in the Durham-Yorks area, it would be VERY appreciated!! Thanks In Advance! ~~Bren --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo.

Tribute from the "Land Down Under" (Lat 17.5s Long 146.4e) Hello to All, The family MACHELL that I am looking for was listed in the 1851 census at Egton in Lancashire. No mention of them in 1881 census so may have moved to Westmorland or Cumberland as John was born in Kendal, or they may have moved to Durham or North Yorkshire. Family in 1851 comprised: John (Head) age 29 b. Kendal Maria (Wife) age 35 b. Ulverston Mary (dau) age 3 b. Egton cum Newlands Sarah (dau) age 8 months b. Egton cum Newlands. What I seek is something from census 1841, 1861 or 1871 if such exists or similar timespan info. By then the family could have the addition of one George Edward MACHELL born c1851-1853 "near Keswick in the Lake district of Westmorland", according to his obituary. And he is the one that I am really chasing! Be kind and hope to be right Dean Newman, North Queensland Australia. "As time goes by" kenyon@znet.net.au "The more you learn the less you know"
