Hello Listers (again!), Sorry, ignore my first message! I have now done a search on Genuki Yorkshire and found it! (Micklegate, York). My only excuse is that it's Sunday and my brain is less in gear than normal! Jo
Hello Listers, Does anyone know where St Martin & St Gregory Church (listed on IGI as York, Yorkshire) might be? Many thanks. Jo Scrayingham
Hi Jo, > Does anyone know where St Martin & St Gregory Church (listed on IGI as York, Yorkshire) might be? > > Many thanks. > It was and probably still is down Micklegate - though I don't think it has been used as a church in my lifetime. I recall they used to have jumble sales etc there at one time. Micklegate is probably now more well known for the 'Micklegate run'. Basically there are a significant number of pubs - and the aim is to either work your way up or down all of them, taking a drink in each along the way. The church is about half way along. Hello Peter, I have some HARRISON connections close to Whitby - Jane HARRISON, born approximately 1787 at Fylingdales, is my ggg.grandmother - and I don't have any clues about her parentage, as yet. She married John PATTERSON or PATTISON in 1812; their children were born at Staintondale. I don't know of any in Middlesbro and my WOOD family never like the sea! All were farmers, from Kirkby Moorside and Kirkdale, for many generations. Hello: I'm looking for any connection to Elizabeth BURLI(N)SON baptised 10 April 1795 in Yarm, mother Dorothy. I've been given this information second hand and if anyone has access to the Yarm baptism registers I'd appreciate a look to verify this. Many thanks. Linda.

HI Linda You can familiarise yourself with Yorkshire and get some very useful information about researching in the county and learn something of it's history by going to the Genuki website, this site coveres the whole of the UK, you will find the site at www.genuki.org.uk Not all of the places you mention are in the North Riding covered by this list but on the Genuki site you will find links to lists for the West & East Ridings. If you can get a modern road map of the country or of Yorkshire you might find that a great help with getting to know the lie of the land. I am English but I still find a road map very useful when looking for places where my ancestors lived. There are lots of old & modern maps online too, you will find links to such sites on the Genuki pages under the heading of Maps. Good Luck Jenny DeAngelis. Spain. > > Have just joined this list, hope I'm in the right place, as I have some relatives/ancestors from Yorkshire but being totally unfamiliar with the different Ridings of Yorkshire I'm not sure if I'm in the right place, perhaps you could point me in the right direction. >> The places that my ancestors lived in are: > > Middlesbrough > York > Norton near Malton > Huttons Ambo > Barnsley > Goole > Moor Monkton > Haxby >> Are all these places covered by this list, I'm already a member of the Barnsley list, thanks so much > > Linda > Tasmania, Australia > > ______________________________

The name is familiar to me. I had a teacher that taught me "Poetry" in 1962-3 at "Old Penshaw Girles school" Co Durham, England. I often come across the name when I am looking through records, She was a lovely lady.
