    2. Thankyou Michele? for the mail. Yes, that is my family, to be exact Arthur was my Mums Grandfather. Everyone moved away from Norfolk (well almost all) and we know that some of the boys including a Sidney, moved to Middlesborough, it is these boys that I wish to trace. If anyone can help I would be grateful. Many thanks Amanda Wood

    3. Hi Margaret , I note the name CALVERT amongst your interests and will be interested to know the area involved . Mine are Runswick Bay/Hinderwell area at present but I have only got back to late 1700s . Although no connection to me , so far as I know , I am interested in a George Sayer CALVERT b Brotton in 1765 . He was the illeg son of Jane CALVERT and was married under the SAYER CALVERT name .Indeed his first two children were christened likewise but the following three children were christened with only the name SAYER . One can assume reasons for doing this but it would be interesting to know if any record exists concerning this name change . Cheers , Harry Sayer Ambleside Also researching SAYER , anywhere in Yorkshire (I have lots of records over many years ) PYBUS in Lythe/Liverton/Danby area back to 1750 SIMPSON in Lythe/ Barnby area back to late 1700s HODGSON in Egton/Ugthorpe /Scaling /Hinderwell area back to 1600s ----- Original Message ----- From: margaret o'shea <m.oshea1@ntlworld.com> To: <ENG-NORTH-YORKS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 26, 2003 11:20 PM Subject: [N'Yorks] Guisborough MIs > If anyone has the MIs for Guisborough I would be very grateful for any information on Thomas ROBINSON (Yeoman of Skelton) who died sometime between 1806 and 1808. > > I have the MIs for Skelton and couldn't find a reference to this particular Thomas Robinson (wife Jane). 1. [N'Yorks] HARRISON in Whitby
    2. Peter Shaw
    3. Karen and Janice Hi. Yes Karen this indeed could be my HARRISON family. My records are not available to me at present, and I can only look at the 1851 & 1891 census Index and the 1881 census. I don't think that Luke and Elizabeth were Francis' parents --the '51 census 2374 f360 shows ;- Luke 64, b Glazedale, Elizabeth 66, b Irl, Elizabeth 26, b Flambro, Joseph 30 b Leaholm Bridge. Also Whitby '51 at Hawkser [probably Church St] on f 508, Francis 28 b Fylingdales, Elizabeth 28 bWhitby Mary 2 b Fyl, Peter 1 bFyl, Catherine 36 b Hawkser, Edmund 11 b Fyl, John 25 b Skelton. The 1881 census shows Francis and Elizabeth at Church Street, with George, Robert, Morley, Jane appears to be married and is now a LAVEN. Peter age 31 is married with 9 children!! The 1891 census shows on 3994 f 73 -- Francis 68 b Fyl, Morley 22 b Whitby, Laura 22 b Whitby, Elsie M 1 b Whitby. The 1851 index for Fylingdales shows about 70 HARRISONS. But there is one family who could be of interest, f 220 shows -- Frances (m) presume this means male, 71 b Fyl, Mary 67 b Fyl, William 30 b Fyl. Elizabeth HARRISON nee Shaw, Francis William's widow [he died 2nd Q 1888] left Whitby and settled in M'Bro probably about 1895, her children were Mary Elizabeth b 1876, John b 1877, Fanny Robinson b 1878, Ethel b 1880, Eleanor b 1882, Mary Jane b 1885, Francis William b 1887. Regards Peter Shaw.

    3. You can ask for a photocopy of the original entry if you can quote the full reference and and the surname of interest to you from Teesside archives at Middlebrough who will hold the microfilm of the census, they will probably charge a small fee for the copy & postage. Otherwise you would have to order the film at the LDS and look for that particular entry and make a copy or note by hand the full details. This link for Middlesbrough Libraries and Archives will take you to Teesside archives. You will find an e.mail address for the archives here too. http://www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/it/webdevt/council/LIBSARCH.NSF?OpenDatabase Where do you have your SMITHs? Regards Jenny DeAngelis. 1. [N'Yorks] Harrison and Wood in Whitby
    2. Karen Harrison
    3. Hi Peter, Hi Janice, I am pretty sure I also have a connection with your Francis HARRISON born 1822/3 in Fylingdales. The connection is through Peter Morley HARRISON (the elder brother of your Francis William HARRISON). I had unsubscribed for a while (and just noticed your posting whilst browsing the list) According to Peter Morley HARRISON's birth certificate, his parents were a Francis HARRISON and Elizabeth Charlotte HARRISON nee MORLEY. However I have not to date been able to track a marriage down for this pair. I have a sneaky feeling that they may have married after their first two children were born (Mary Morley HARRISON b. abt 1848 and Peter Morley HARRISON b. 13 Mar 1850) and your Francis William (b. abt 1852). But I need to get back to look this up in the GRO indexes to confirm this. There other children were Jane Elizabeth, George, John, Thomas, Robert & Morley (although there may be more). I hadn't been able to place Francis HARRISON (senior) death, but believe he was living at Taylorson's Yard in 1891 with his youngest son Morley HARRISON. I am pretty sure he had died before 1901 (there is a possible match on FreeBMD for a Francis William HARRISON who died Q4 1895 aged 71 - although there may well be other matches.) I would be very happy to share all of the information I have gathered to date on this line. I have not been able to get back any further for definite, but have found a possible match for Francis in the 1841 Census in Whitby who is aged "20" (aged between 20 & 24). In which case his parents are probably Luke (at least it looks like Luke) who was a tailor and Elizabeth. There is also a William Harrison aged "15 (so aged between 15-19) in the same household who is an apprentice tailor. I couldn't make out Francis' occupation. Look forward to hearing from you! Kind regards Karen Harrison
