    1. [N'Yorks] Hutchinson Family
    2. Chris Heron
    3. I am tracing my family history but now live in South Yorkshire and am having difficulties, and was wondering whether anyone could help me! I am trying to locate a John Hutchinson known as "John William Hutchinson". He was born in 1869 and married Violet Harrison in 1898 in Fangfoss parish. On the 1881 Census I managed to find a John Hutchinson aged 12 In Acklam (parents Jane and William Hutchinson), which could be a possibility, but have had no success locating him on the 1901. His wife and first child Annie are living in Pocklington but he is not there. The only other information I have is that he is buried in Millington, East Yorkshire, and his father was William Hutchinson (found on his marriage certificate). Any suggestion or help would be really appreciated! Christine

    3. At last I seem to have made some progress with my difficult (common) paternal surname of ROBINSON. I now believe that my 4 x gt grandfather was Thomas ROBINSON a Yeoman who owned Aisdale (Aysdale) Gate Farm 3 miles from Guisborough (I have a copy of his will). Thomas died in 1807, and someone has kindly forwarded a few of the early Robinson baptisms and burials from All Saints Church, Skelton with references to other Robinsons connected to this farm. I have emailed North Yorkshire Record Office in case they may hold early deeds for the farm which was on the site in the 1700s (? not sure how early). However, as it is still a working farm I am not sure at present if the current owners may hold the early deeds. Obviously the early deeds could be of enormous help to me in establishing earlier generations etc - I know that Thomas was a "Yeoman of Skelton" when he married at Eston in 1764. Thomas's son Robert had property at Moorsholme up to his death in 1822. Someone has pointed out that most of the land in and around Guisborough is owned by one of three large(ish) estates: The Zetland Estate, The Skelton and Gilling Estate, and the Gisborough Estate and queried how Aysdale Gate Farm isn't/ wasn't a part of one of these. Naturally I am delighted to have made some progress after a long period of very hard work, and doubly pleased that the farm is apparently still there (although reportedly changed). If anyone has any observations which could be of help in any way regarding the above I would be grateful. Also any pointers to where I can find more information on the agriculture depression (which perhaps could account for Thomas's grandson John leaving for Stockton around 1824/5). Many thanks. 3. Hi Ian and Michael, I have just subscribed to the North Yorks list as I received your message via the Rootsweb PML facilty. The Agar Arms is named for the AGAR family of Stockton on the Forest, Warthill, Holtby, York and others nearby. I'm not sure when it was given that name as it was stilll The Bay Horse in 1840. My gg uncle inherited the manors of Stockton on the Forest & Holtby in 1906 and lived at Brockfield Hall. I have not found any connection with the AGARs of Danby or Whitby. The name AGAR was far more common in Yorkshire than I ever imagined, particularly in the 18/19th centuries. My g4 grandfather William AGAR of Wheldrake married Ann HARRISON of Holtby in 1755 at St Margaret's York. Not I believe in any way related to Michael's William HARRISON and Ian's Ann AGAR. Also not related to AGARs in Kilburn or in WRY or Durham or Essex or Kent... Cheers, Liz in Melbourne, still looking for the parents of g5 gf William AGAR, of Howden in 1724 when he married Mary DIXON nee Wright in Wheldrake.. I am not sure how popular the AGAR name is, but there is an AGAR Arms public house at Warthill just to the East of York. It is named after the AGAR family who lived at Brockfield Hall which is nearby. 2. This is a repeat listing for the family of Henry William LIVINGSTONE who lived in Middlesbrough in the early 1900s -- no dates known. Also listed is Archibald Robert DICKSON, Jr., whose parents, Archie, Sr. and Ann Mary TELFORD (of St. Bees) were married 23 Dec. 1899 in Hartlepool. Archie, Sr. died soon after the birth of his son, and Archie, Jr. was raised by the aforementioned Henry William LIVINGSTONE in Middlesbrough under the name of William Henry LIVINGSTONE, a variation of his adoptive father's name. Much is known of Archie, Jr. (Henry William), but nothing of the family who raised him or why he was raised by the LIVINGSTONEs and not his mother. Any help will be much appreciated. Please answer me off line at RSTELF@cs.com because I have to unsubscribe to the sites receiving this. Thanks in advance. Bob Telford, Long Beach, CA, USA
