    1. [N'Yorks] re sollitt family
    2. Lisa Day
    3. Hi my name is lisa day and im researching my father's side of the family my late grandmother was a florence hilda sollitt born 1912 guisborough. My grandmother had two sister's edna and kathy and two brother's raymond and bernard. RAYMOND was adopted by the family. I was having a look at the 1901 census and found an ernest sollitt from guisborough age 17 and was a miner inside. MY father has told me that his mother florence's father was a miner and died very young. The family in the depression years moved to cambridgeshire for work and settled in chatteris/wisbech,peterborough area's. When their father died their mother annie sollitt nee gamblin married for the second time to a ? parish. The sollitt family were salvation army people if that makes it easier to work out if your related. Hope to hear from any one that can help me in this search All the best lisa day --------------------------------- Yahoo! Personals - New people, new possibilities! Try Yahoo! 2. Howard Mais
    3. Dear Listers I believe that an ancestor, Frederick Mais, may have been killed in a shipyard accident between 1871 and 1881. Other than going through parish records or newspapers for this period, can anyone suggest another way by which I might search for details? Is there a central index of deaths for instance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Howard Mais Leeds

    3. Hi Elizabeth, My Grandparents lived at Mount Pleasant Farm across the road from Brockfield Hall from about 1918 just after they were married until the mid 1950's. I guess they would have known your Gt Gt Uncle and his family. My Father and his brothers and sisters visited the hall many times in their childhood. My Aunty Cissy met her future husband at the hall when he was stationed their with the army in the 1940's. I only live a few miles from Brockfield and Stockton Hall's. I purchased a booklet from Northallerton Records Office which has some information on Brockfield Hall when it was built and its owners. The Agar Arms is named for the AGAR family of Stockton on the Forest, Warthill, Holtby, York and others nearby. I'm not sure when it was given that name as it was stilll The Bay Horse in 1840. My gg uncle inherited the manors of Stockton on the Forest & Holtby in 1906 and lived at Brockfield Hall. I have not found any connection with the AGARs of Danby or Whitby. The name AGAR was far more common in Yorkshire than I ever imagined, particularly in the 18/19th centuries. My g4 grandfather William AGAR of Wheldrake married Ann HARRISON of Holtby in 1755 at St Margaret's York. Not I believe in any way related to Michael's William HARRISON and Ian's Ann AGAR. Also not related to AGARs in Kilburn or in WRY or Durham or Essex or Kent... Cheers, Liz in Melbourne, still looking for the parents of g5 gf William AGAR, of Howden in 1724 when he married Mary DIXON nee Wright in Wheldrake..
