Hi, Please will someone offer me suggestions as to where I look next for Elias HARTLEY He was born in Knaresborough, baptised 24 July 1803. Married Rhoda SWIFT on26 November 1823. Three known children Elizabeth, Thomas and William (b.28/10/1836). Rhoda died in Leeds Infimary 1840. The 1841 Census for Knaresborough shows Elizabeth and Thomas living with their grandmother Elizabeth Nothing more on Elias. So - did he remarry and move away? Was he in jail for the Census? Was he in hospital? The only positive knowledge I have is that he was dead in 1871 when William married. There is an Eli Hartley who died June qtr 1852 in Bradford and an Eli Hartley who died in June qtr 1853 in Keighley. Where would the records be kept? If anyone can offer any suggestions I would be so very very grateful. Look forward to hearing from you. Ruth in Cumbria
Will do lookups from the following LDS films that I have on 4 week loan. Please be sure to check the IGI at www.familysearch.org to be sure your person is on one of these films because these are the only 4 I have on loan. Please include the IGI index for the person when you request the lookup so I have as much information as possible. I have these on loan for 3 more weeks but I can renew them if need be. 0990922 Bishop's transcripts, 1600-1873 Church of England. Parish Church of Pickering My batch number was C108751 0990907 Bishop's transcripts, 1601-1843 Church of England. St. Michael's Church (New Malton, Yorkshire) My batch number was M108511. The next one is Co. Durham, but I will include it here anyhow. 0091113 Parish register transcripts, 1781-1812 Church of England. St. John's Church (Stanhope) My batch was P000541. Please note that I am pretty sure that Parish register transcripts, 1595-1780 Church of England. St. Thomas' Church (Stanhope) is on a different microfilm and I only ordered the one listed above. If anyone has something they want from the earlier one, I will check to see if they are on the same reel. This one is Worchester, but again I will include it here. I am not on a Worchester list. If anyone here is, please pass this on to them. 0354334 Parish registers, 1538-1957 Church of England. Parish Church of Feckenham Please note that there are 5 reels. I have the reel 354334, which has Baptisms 1792-1837 Burials 1792-1848 Also, please be patient. I am still searching these reels for my own family and I do obit lookups too, so my time to do these lookups is limited. Unless you catch me on the day I am going to check for my family and I have time to lookup yours, don't expect to get these the next day. It could take me a couple of weeks. Renee (Holmes) O'Neal
During a holiday in Yorkshire last week I managed to "slip away" from visiting the relatives for a while in order to do some ancestral research. I had been sent a burial reference for Oxbridge Lane Cemetery, Stockton, for my g.g.grandfather John BELL who died at Stockton Hospital in l883. Although he had no headstone, the cemetery staff were more than helpful and took great trouble to locate the plot for me. They also told me that I could have seen the actual burial entry in the registers held at Cleveland Archives in Middlesbrough. We duly set off for Middlesbrough but, unfortunately, spent over an hour driving round in circles trying to find the Archives Office, becoming more and more confused with all the closed roads and one-way systems. With regret we abandoned the journey. If anyone more familiar with Middlesbrough is due to be researching at the Cleveland Archives in the coming weeks could I please ask a BIG favour? I am interested to know whether there is any additional information on the following two burials: John BELL, died l8.11 l883, age 66, buried Oxbridge Lane Cemetery on 20.11.l883 and Mary BELL, died l8.l2.l884, age 66, buried Oxbridge Lane Cemetery on 22.l2.l884 I know for sure that John BELL is the correct entry, however, I have been trying to find out what happened to his wife Mary. The entry above would fit her perfectly however the l884 burial for this particular Mary BELL took place from Stockton Workhouse and I can't understand how she could end up there whilst having five living sons. Also, she was not buried with the above John BELL. I was hoping the actual burial entry may have additional information. I ordered the death certificate for this Mary BELL and, under occupation it just says "unknown of Stockton". If anyone would be kind enough to check the burial entries for me I would be delighted. Kindest regards Diane Johansen

Judith, Thank you for your offer of help. I have had another offer, however, and will be taking it up. I appreciate your offer, sometimes it can be very difficult from this distance to get facts confirmed apart from purchasing certificates. So, the 1871 census could give a clue to her birthplace, which would > be a small piece of the puzzle and a help in searching. As you have no doubt seen in the 1881 census, Solomon is living with a Sarah A. Martin, a stepdaughter, born in Rosset, Flint, Wales. Could Mary Martin be her previous married name, or was she unmarried, at the time of the birth of her daughter? On the 1881 census there is a Mary Martin living in Westoe, C. Durham, married, but only living with a daughter (Mary Ann) and a couple of others. She is listed as married. One of the others is Robert Jones from Swansea. He is listed as married. No wife is shown with him. Could this be worth investigating further. Lancelot Howard Barron Middlesbrough U.K. LBarron Associates U.K. Web Page http://www.barron40.fsnet.co.uk/New_Web/Page_1x.html

Hello, If you pay a visit to your local LDS Center, they have ALL the UK Censuses on film, also Electoral Rolls, Old Wills, War Records, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials on film from almost all UK Churches, some going back to the 1600s. and much more !! The only church records I had trouble finding, were a few of the Quaker records which were missing. The LDS Centers are free of charge and open to everyone. Good luck in your search, Pam, an Aldershot, Hants. gal in Arizona. Always looking for RENNEY - SMITH - W. Hartlepool and Sunderland, Co. Durham CHEESEBROUGH - Middlesbrough, N. Yorks.
Hi, The Middlesbrough Poor Law Union was opened on the corner of St Barnabas Rd and Ayresome Green Lane in 1875. Before this Middlesbrough was part of the Stockton Poor Law Union. I don't think there were any other institutions in the town in 1881. Hi Listers, Where can I find a list of Parish Clerks? My g gfather John TAYLOR was listed on 1881 census as Parish Clerk and Cattle Dealer - living at Lovesome Hill, Brompton near Northallerton. This chap is a pain in the ......, up until the 1851 census his birthplace was Yorkshire, on the 1861 & 1871 birthplace unknown, then on the 1881 birthplace is Brighton, Sussex! I wonder if he was going a bit loopy and had ideas of grandeur so put himself down as a Parish Clerk and born a Southerner. Any help or suggestions gratefully received - Sue Taylor. Is there anyone on the list who is planning a visit to the Northallerton Records Office in the near future and who would be so kind as to do some checking for me, please? I would like some marriages checked between 1914-1918, in the Leake St Mary registers, if they are available. Please let me know and I will send the details. Many thanks Ailsa Petrie -- Hamilton New Zealand
