Hi im looking for any one related to the SOLLITT family around guisborough yorkshire they were salvation army people. My late grandmother florence hilda sollitt born 1912 april had two sister's and one brother and one adopted brother raymond. The two sisters were edna and kathy and the other brother herbert. Their father was a coal miner or an iron stone miner i did find a ernest sollitt age 17 born guisborough in the 1901 census but im not sure yet as im searching for my grandmother's birth so far i have'nt. In the 1920's the family moved to cambridgeshire for work as the depression years made work hard to find. Most of the family member's are buried at borough cemetery peterborough i think the cemetery is now called cambridgeshire cemetery not quite sure. This line is very hard to find any thing concrete or proof that ernest was the father Hope to hear Lisa Day --------------------------------- Yahoo! Search - Looking for more? Try the new Yahoo! Hello Pamela and Joyce. Yes, indeed, the subscribers to Mariners List are very helpful. But that list deals mostly with ships and their crews. For information on passengers, TheShipsList is a much better option. Their web site is at: http://www.theshipslist.com Happy hunting. I'm looking for George and Margaret Wilkinson in Loftus, North Yorkshire during the 1860/1880 period. I would be grateful if anyone with either the 1861/1871 census could have a look for me. Thanks Ken
Can anyone suggest where I can find info. on a couple who travelled from South Africa to West Hartlepool,County Durham and Middlesbrough, North Yorks, during late September and early October, 1908. Their names were Charles Frederick RENNEY and wife Margaret RENNEY. Margaret RENNEY gave birth to twin boys aboard ship on October 1st, 1908, on the way over. They all returned to South Africa 6 weeks later. Their babies births were registered at Middlesbrough and no ship was mentioned on the birth certificates. Need to discover which ships made the trip during this time period. Can anyone suggest where I can find a list of ships travelling between the UK and South Africa from September to December, 1908. Regards, Pamela.
I wonder if anyone goes to Whitby library and could look up a newspaper obituary for me. I know the obituary exists in the Whitby Gazette and the date of the edition of thenewspaper in question in 1901, but only have the barest details from an index linked to the Genuki site for Yorkshire. If anyone can help me perhaps they would contact me off list so that I can give them the details that I do have. The index I found this obit. in may be of use to others who are unaware of it's existence. The link is from the Genuki website, and is http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jeffery.knaggs/YD.html The main Genuki page for the uk is at www.genuki.org.uk At present only 1901 seems to have been indexed at the above link, as far as I have looked that is, but I found it useful in tracing one of my Hirst ancestors, he of the obituary mentioned above. The Hirst I found died in the Newcastle area of Northumberland but had been born at Northallerton but moved to Whitby where he married and had been a manufacturer of Jet Ornaments with his own business for several years, hence his mention in the Whitby Gazette. Thankyou very much for any help anyone may be able to give me with this obituary. Regards Jenny DeAngelis. Spain.

Hello all, With apologies to all who couldn't read the .pdf file of Easingwold MIs. I am still trying to work out why some can read it and some cannot, but in the meantime, I have now uploaded the .htm version to http:///www.yorkfamilyhistory.org.uk which should be readable in all browsers (I hope, but please let me know if you are not able to read it). Thanks for your patience, and I hope you find this file useful. Can anyone explain to me, please, why the pdf file worked for some but not all? Hi Pam Maybe Anthony had emigrated by then. There was a big exodus to Australia in the second half of the 1800s. Regards, Pam, an Aldershot gal in Arizona. Thanks for your input, Anthony did not emigrate although the STYAN family he married into did - Emma's brothers. They are still there now, and hold STYAN reunions in America and Canada. I have an email contact in Canada, Ken STYAN a 6 times removed cousin who is very helpful. Anthony and Emma went on to have my father Charles, Isabella and William in Gateshead Durham. My problem is, I am beginning to think I might have researched the wrong Anthony. The one I have researched is from Watermillock in Cumberland back to 1751. Thank you for your idea. I have joined the list to see if there is anybody who might offer other comments or help. A lady from the Rootsweb1901 list, found the odd numbers of Ashton Street Gateshead for me on the 1901 Census but the family were not there. Gateshead Library have already checked there for me for the 1901 Census. Douglas KITCHEN died there aged 5 in May 1901 and my father Charles was born there in January 1902. Noreen

Hello Denise, Can you tell me anything more about Alice KAY, please? I ask because I have a Mary HAMILTON who married Thomas Richard KAY in 1895. As yet, I know nothing more about them, except that their marriage banns were published in the North Otterington Parish Church in December of 1895. Alice's birthdate could make her a daughter, perhaps? It is a long shot, I know, but worth the enquiry. I have quite a lot of information about Mary and her family. Hi Susan, Sorry not Shane but Trevor, researching the Holmes family of Whitby/ Lythe, You gave me some info a while ago re; Robert Holmes and Hannah Petty, I have picked up a few bits and pieces,re; Hannah and a few questions which you may or may not know. From English parish records...Wedding, 1st Sep 1811, Thomas Petty [signed Pettey] bach, and Hannah Prodham [Pridham against her mark] by special licence, both Lythe parish. witness William Knaggs & John Knaggs. Birth,21 July 1812 Elizabeth, d of Thomas & Hannah Petty of Whitby, farmer. Death, 22 nd Aug 1823 Hannah Petty age 1. Death, 29 May 1824 Thomas Petty of Knipe How age 43. Hannah the daughter was born in 1828,after the fathers death????????? 1851 census both Hannah's were living with Robert in Church st Whitby and the mother had taken the Holmes name. After Roberts death in 1857 ,the1861 census shows, Hannah[d] married to Francis ? fisherman, age ?,Hannah Holmes Age 66 FARMERS WIDOW???????? living in Henrietta st Whitby,[so was she wed to Robert] The 1881 census has Hannah [d] married to Mathew Kennedy at Lansdown st, 12 Granville ter Kingston-upon-Hull,with Hannah Holmes[m] age 87 supported by daughter. and as you know Hannah[m] died in 1883 age 89.
