    1. Park Lodge, Vernon Road, Scarborough
    2. Mike
    3. I would be very interested in hearing from people who have any records of 'Park Lodge'. It is at the bottom of Vernon Road, ie the corner with Valley Road. All I have found is the entry from the 1901 census, indicating joint occupiers called Agnes Blanshan (aged 47 from Leeds) & Julia Nichols (43 from Birmingham). However the writing is extremely bad, and I cannot find these people on any other records (ie BMD or 1891, 1881 on Ancestry). I do not know when it was built, or what it was a Lodge for (the Art Gallery & Woodend are near-by, but not that much bigger than Park Lodge). Aparently the Rotunda was built in 1828, and Cliff Bridge around that time too. 1. Looking for Kellys from Ireland
    2. Nick Wingrove
    3. Hi, my name is Nick Wingrove from Canada, I am looking for the family of my G/Grandmother Catherine Kelly. Her father Patrick Kelly came from Ireland about 1875 along with his wife Mary, his mother Catherine and first born son Michael. I have census records showing them living at 35 Laing St. Eston in 1891 and at Hatherly St. in Middlesbrough in 1901 but I can't find anything for 1881. All the census records say is that they were born in Ireland but that is no help when you are looking for a Kelly in Ireland so I need to know what town or county they were from. Would it be possible to find some sort of immigration records or maybe a ship manifest that may help? Thanks, Nick Wingrove

    2. Diane Coroners Inquest reports Try the Coroners reports held at Northallerton CRO. An inquest was required for all sudden deaths over the age of 3. The index includes all the inquest papers which are available for public consultation. Coroners' papers are normally closed for 75 years. The districts covered by this index include:- York (YK) East Riding (ER) Ripon Liberty (RL) Kirby Malzeard (KMZ) Northern (ND) Pickering (PK) Langbaurgh North (LN) Langbaurgh East (LE) Langbaurgh West (LW) Bishopthorpe (BP) Thirsk (TH) I did a check of all Sayers on the index and got about 5 reports back - they were absolutely fascinating. Newspapers: Yorkshire Gazette Yorkshire evening Post Indexes to both these newspapers can be accessed at Yorks central library. Not sure about the dates covered though. Malton Messenger also covers that area but not sure if this is available and indexed for 1834. Some of those indexes are available on Rootsweb.com. Good luck Laurel Sayer (Researching all instances of SAYER in Yorkshire and Durham) -----Original Message----- From: diane [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 11 December 2005 12:39 To: [email protected] Subject: Newspapers from l834 Mary Stevenson BELL Mary Stevenson BELL was born in Girsby, Co. Durham, in l825, d/o James and Margaret BELL, whilst her father was farming there. James' father, John BELL, was the miller at Hornby, near Great Smeaton and it was to the Great Smeaton parish church that Mary was taken to be buried after her early death in l834. The burial registers tell us that she was buried there on 22nd May l834 "aged nine and a half" but that she died in Sutton under Whitestonecliffe. Later events in the family seem to refer back to this death and it may well have been a "pivotal" moment in my BELL history. For this reason I am very keen to know whether there might be any newspapers still in existence covering May l834 for the Thirsk or Great Smeaton area which might mention the accidental death of a child? Hello Gill, I don't know if you ever received an answer re the Vulcan Ward in Middlesbrough but I do know there was a Vulcan Street in the old part of town close to the river Tees. I think it would have been one of the earliest street's built. Sorry my answer has taken so long, I have been searching for my maps of this area. I now realise I cannot find them because I lent them out. Regards, Barbara. 3. André, You said: ">I am also looking for a place called "Oldfield" and mentioned in the 1841 census of West-Tanfield."< Could this be Aldfield, about 3 mls west of Ripon, near Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. Don't know of an "Oldfiled" near Tanfield, but could be a long abandoned homestead. I will check further. 2. G'day Andy, Unfortunately I can't help you with the research of your GRAHAM. In your message, the name of the hamlet Colsterdale attracted my attention. That's where my wife's ROBINSON were AG labourers in 1780. In 2002 we visited the place which is remote and has only one farmhouse. I have one old and some new pictures of the place. Please let me know if you are interested. I did find records of Thomas ROBINSON married to Ann nee HAMMOND in the parish records of Masham. I am still looking for their marriage around 1770. So far I have checked the Parishes of - Kirkby - Malzeard - Thornton - Steward - Coverham - Horsehouse - East Witton Are there other parishes I should consult? I am also looking for a place called "Oldfield" and mentioned in the 1841 census of West-Tanfield. I can't find this place in the vicinity. Any suggestion? Regards, André STUECKELBERGER in Sydney
