Hello Sue, I don't know what the query is on Green lane but I do know there was a Green lane in Middlesbrough where the fever hospital was/is. Regards, Barbara
Hi Laurel, Forget to mention I don't have the Sowerby MIs. Had a quick check and Thirsk MIs seem to range from late 1700s onwards. Do you have access to the National Burial Index, if not let me know and I'll see what I can find for you. Cheers, Sue
Hi Peter, Thank you for your reply. Enquiring about Thirsk and Sowerby was just the beginning!! I have decided to widen my search to include surrounding parishes. Although I have found no indication of my Kilvington family in Nth or Sth Kilvington to date, I plan to see what OPRs are available and order them in to trawl through. When I visited Northallerton Library last June, I found mention of the name de Kilvington in the Victoria History series, as being in the Sth Kilvington area as far back as 1300. Hello Peter, It's very kind of you to help out. I got one other reply, helping me to locate the place and giving me the postcode. Here are a few more details. My great aunt, whose existance I was unaware of until very recently, married a scot named John McClintock in 1933 or 34. They moved from Stockton on Tees to Loftus and apparantly had a smallholding at Cowscote hall. I don't know if they lived in the building or just used the grounds. My aunt's name was Sarah but she was known as Sally. She died there in January 1957 and is buried in Loftus. Her husband went back to Scotland after her death. Any additional information would be very welcome. Regards, Bil Harley Hi Bil, I don't know whether you got any replies to your query. I passed it along to a friend of mine who is one of the local history "experts" in that part of the world. He has come back with the following information: Cowscote Hall appears on an Ordnance Survey Map dated 1914 as an Infectious Diseases Hospital. It is located in Deepdale Woods which lie to the south of Skinningrove and to the west of Loftus. Its location is covered by the current postcode of TS13 4RT. My friend has, in turn, a contact in Loftus who could possibly provide more details if you could let me have names and dates that relate to this location. regards, Peter Appleton
Hi Sue That was really good of you, thankyou. I'm disappointed there's nothing at Thirsk and Sowerby, but never mind. What period did the MIs mainly cover as this might explain it. I have the Hutton Bonville and Danby Wiske entries already thanks, but appreciate you checking those, and the others. At least I can rule some sources out! best wishes laurel Sayer -----Original Message----- From: sue taylor [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday 09 January 2006 15:00 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Thirsk & Sowerby Monumental Inscriptions - SAYER Hi Laurel, No problem about the avalanche, it's great that I'm able to return the help I've been given. Hi Sue Started an avalanche here I think! But I also wondered whether you could check the MIs for SAYER. I had several Sayers living in these parishes in 1800s. Much appreciated. Hi there, i have just joined and thought i would state my name interests! My name is Laura Broughton and have lived in Northallerton, NYorks all my life (Although i am currently completing my last year at university in bournemouth). My grandfather ernest george edward broughton was adopted but kept the broughton name. He is originally from bedford and i havnt really followed that up much because of the adoption thing (he was adopted circa 1921). My other interests have been with the following names and areas: harland: northallerton, thirsk, borrowby leake area steele: see above plus south otterington hyde/hide: see above cooper: northallerton and stockton on tees oxborough: as above hardy: leyburn, bedale and northallerton stott: leyburn and bedale welton: stockton on tees, lincoln (glandford brigg, market raisen, melton ross etc) tomlinson: lincoln, especially elizabeth tomlinson and her father george tomlinson. thompson: northallerton (married into the harlands) ingledew: northallerton, borrowby, leake and newcastle area. Thats a quick description, and i know a couple on there are subjects for other discussion groups (eg: newcastle, lincolnshire etc) but i put them anyway because of their connections with n.yorks areas. If anyone is interested in the same names dont hesitate to drop me a line, ive made particularly good progress with the welton and ingledew lines, but would love to make more discoveries on the harland line. Many thanks, Laura Broughton

Hi Ailsa, One thing that was missing from all the replies to your post that I have seen is this: South Kilvington is the name of a village just a couple of miles from Thirsk. Hi Laurence The Leeds Library has all the census from 1841 to 1901. I checked most of them in the KIrkbymoorside area & wrote down nearly all the Jacksons . I have also wrote in my notebook some of the parish or bishops transcripts at the record office in Northallerton. I checked them to look for George Jackson & found one b 1818 ( I didn`t write the month) in KMS he was the son of Thomas Jackson & Dorothy Whitesyke nr Fadmoor He was a farmer. 1851census Rudland Farndale Left Quarter Tom. Hi, I have just joined the North Yorks web site( in fact is only the Web Site I have joined) When looking through the earlier years I noticed a lot of chat re The Jacksons in 2003. I believe I am related to a lot of them & if anybody still uses the site I would like to hear from them. My mother was a Jackson & lived in Leeds a large city in West Yorks. Her father was Frederick Jackson who was born1878 in Pickering( next town to Kirkbymoorside He had 10 Brothers & Sisters. His father was JOHN JACKSON born 1816 in KMS he married Hannah Holmes in1845 His mother was Hannah Jackson b 1799 Her mother was William Jackson 1769 he married Ann Graystock in 1779 I have been to Northallerton Record Office a couple of time & have found out a great deal of information about the family in Bransdale & Cochan on Rudland Rigg were they were coal miners. LAURENCE of Toronto I thank you for your E Mail I will check my tree to see were they fit in & reply. It looks that when the coal ran out people left the North Moors to other places to find work. Margaret, You can find more detail on the Genuki site (If not already visited) for example - St Hilda's the lovely old parish church of Danby (in Cleveland) is found on page: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/PhotoFrames/NRY/DanbyStHilda.html Have you considered getting in touch with David Teal who I believe has some Fewston, MOON ancestry, see: http://www.tealfamily.co.uk/idxm.htm There is also a Fewston website at: http://www.tealfamily.co.uk/fewgen.html Its always difficult judging what may or may not be of interest to someone, if Jane MOON was one of mine, I would be pursuing a marriage in the parish registers in both locations, first.
