Hi Mark, There were several MYERS families in the Masham area, as I found to my confusion when hunting them for another descendant. Do you have details of your Thomas' parents (from Mmrriage certificate etc.)?. If your Thomas is the son of Edward and Mary, I have a gravestone photo and transcription for his parents. Also for a Thomas who died in the 1870s and his wife.. Let me know a few names and dates if you have any and I'll check for any information and contacts I have. There seem to be census records for a Thomas and Elizabeth and a Thomas and Christiana. Was your Thomas married twice - or is this another duplicate? Best wishes, Roz

Hello, I hope someone will be able to help me with my search for Thomas Myers born about 1835 in Masham. I have him in Pudsey near Leeds on the 1881 census, but would love to know of his records on the 1841 census and onwards so I can confirm his parentage and whereabouts. Thanks, Mark _________________________________________________________________ Got a favourite clothes shop, bar or restaurant? Share your local knowledge http://www.backofmyhand.com
Hi Michael: Some five years ago, while researching my WINSPEAR family, I had a few emails on this list from Ron Kerrison that included local Glaisdale records from various sources that he had collected, including the Glaisdale Churchwardens records. This may be a useful source for your William HARRISON as well. They covered most of the 19th century. Ron actually lives a short walk away from the workplace of my John WINSPEAR, Lealholm Lawns Farm, where John died suddenly in 1858: 1858 Feb 6 - JOHN WINSPEAR, AGE 41, HOULSYKE, died suddenly when working at Lawns Farm in the employ of Mr Foster, leaves widow and 6 small children. One of the six children, Eleanor WINSPEAR, married William SAWDON of Whitby, a watchmaker and jeweller whose shop was featured in one of the Frank Meadows Sutcliffe photos (in A Fourth Selectiion). A photo of William and Eleanor on their 50th wedding anniversary is in another book, by Colin Waters, and also has been passed down in my family photo collection. William was my great-grandfather, which makes John my 2ggf . I have a lateral connection to the HARRISON family through Mary WELLBURN who married Fred HARRISON Dec Q 1902 at Whitby. Henry WELLBURN was my 3ggf on the SAWDON side. Mary was a granddaughter of his. I can try to reach Ron if it's OK to send him your email address. Please confirm by replying to me off-list. Regards, Martin Willcocks Taylorsville, UT, USA. Was there a local newspaper at that time? Would someone be able to check it for an obituary for William?
Hi Michael, 1, The obituary would possibly be in the Whitby Gazette which may be available in Whitby library. I am not sure what years they have but they certainly have a lot available to search . 2, We have a William HARRISON b circa 1780 in North Yorkshire who was in nearby Staithes in 1841 census. Date of death unknown. 3, We also have a William THOMPSON (not related to the above) b circa 1800 in E. Barnby, Lythe. This William was resident in Glaisdale in both 1841 and 1851 census returns. Beware both are very common names. Hi Magdalena, Thank you for adding the surname of TUET to your Yorkshire list for me. I have just tried to add another spelling of the name - TUART - but am having problems with the mail. I don't know if it has gone through and I don't want to repeat the name. Can you tell if it has been added? Hi Paddy.....this page will give you your answer regarding parish registers: _http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/NRY/Stokesley/index.html_ (http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/NRY/Stokesley/index.html) mary lou ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
Advice please as to how I go about accessing Parish registers for Stokesley in North Riding YKS. George Robson was born in Stokeley about 1777 (he later settled in Hexham NBL.) I do not know which church he was baptised in and once I have such details I can also possibly chase up his parents' marriage and christening of any siblings there might be. Is there a website or address I can refer to? Floundering a bit here and in need of some advice. Paddy.
I have just discovered that my gt-gt-gt-grandfather George ROBSON was born in Stokesley about 1780 (date calculated from 1841 and 1851 census for Hexham NBL) His son William ROBSON for whom I have no birth or death dates, was married in Newcastle NBL in 1840 but later was in Hull where his son James was born 1848. Two requests please: 1)Would somebody please lookup the 1851 census for this family in Hull. The address on James' birth cert. is 4, Charles Place, Cottingham Place, Hull. (the LDS here has discontinued census lookups here so I am stumped for referencing this) 2)How do I get access to parish records for George for his birth and possibly marriage? Is there somebody who might be kind enough to look this up for me please? Paddy.
Hi Paddy, I have looked up the 1851 Yorkshire Census for William Robson aged 30-40 and can only find one William Robson, Dealer in Herbs, b. Northumberland, widower, lodger at Charles Street, Huddersfield HO107/2295/F398 Only other William Robson, b. Northumberland was a minister and no son James or others born Hull. Cannot find a James Robson age 2 - 4, father William in Yorkshire in 1851. Best Regards, Mike Simpson Penrith, NSW, Australia http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~agene

Hello Listers Thomas DAWSON born c1830 Helperby YKS married Elizabeth HEWITSON May 14th 1856, Shincliffe DUR. Father named Mark DAWSON, labourer on marriage certificate. Son John born 1857, baptised Shincliffe 1857 and daughter Jane born 1858 and baptised Wingate Holy Trinity 1858. I have found Thomas with his father Mark and mother Jane in 1841 census for Brafferton YKS. and Mark in 1851-1891 census' I haven't found Thomas in the 1851 census. I'm wondering whether he had moved to DUR by then. Would any lister have connection with this family. I would love to have more information of Mark and Jane prior to 1841 census.. Hello everyone, It may be cold comfort for many, but the weather is just as miserable in Northern Portugal as in the UK. In fact, it is raining cats and dogs and has been all day. My commiserations for all who are suffering so much from the wet in the UK. We have two deleted submitters this week as their emails are bouncing. All their surnames have been deleted and will have to be sent in again if they are to be included in the database. Kerry Hutson (2 names) Paulkerry@hutsonp.freeserve.co.uk Mal Pace (33 names) mal_pace@ihug.co.nz On the bright side, 20 new surnames have been submitted. Good luck everyone!
