    3. Most of my family research has been delving into C.of E. records and my ROBSON family I suspect were Methodists. How do I go about searching the Methodist records for Stokesley. Search of the C.ofE records there have so far drawn a blank for George Robson 1777-1852, said to have been born at Stokesley (1851 census Hexham NBL) Any help here would be great, Paddy.

    1. [ENG-NORTH-YORKS] Robson Research
    2. Paddy
    3. Taking yet another punt at finding my Robsons. I am currently looking for Joseph Robson (1766-1806) his wife Thomasin Pyburn (1765-1806). They were married 23rd Nov 1782 in Egglescliffe DUR. I think that Joseph may be the brother of George Robson 1777-1852. George was born at Stokesley and died at Hexham. A kneejerk reaction on my part here, occasioned by the name Thomasin. George Robson had a grndau Thomasin Robson b.1841, child of his son William. Sounds like a tangled skein of wool? Yes, but that's what you get for messing with Robsons. Is there anyone for whom Joseph looks familiar. All help and advice gratefully accepted, Paddy.

    2. Peter Appleton
    3. Hi Margaret, Good to know that you're still digging around in the North Yorks Moors area! I concur with most of the info in Harry's response to your post. I have cross-checked my modern OS 1:25000 map with a reproduction of OS maps from the 1857-1861 period (published by Cassini Maps: www.cassinimaps.com). The farm that you called Hardhill is that which is shown as Red House on the modern map. The farm shown as Highdale Farm on the modern map is shown as High Hardill on the old map. Morgan Intakes appears on both maps. Glaisdale Side on both maps appears to refer to the west side of the dale (where the road runs down the valley today) An Intake is the term used to described a piece of land that has been enclosed and taken into agriculture. kindest regards, Peter Appleton -----Original Message----- From: eng-north-yorks-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-north-yorks-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mml45@aol.com Sent: 22 August 2007 09:56 To: eng-north-yorks@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-NORTH-YORKS] Fryup/Glaisdale area Hello, Can anyone on the list give me more insight about the location of the following farms are are in Glaisdale area? 3. Hi Margaret , Glaisdale Side I figure is the North side of the Glaisdale Valley and an area rather than a Farm...at least I cannot spot such a farm on my maps . Highdale (Hardhill ) Farm is right at the top of the Valley, well up on the moor slope and due West of London House Morgan Intake is less than half a mile East and slightly North of Street in Gt Frup Dale These last two have approaches from the road along Glaisdale Rigg . The Hardhill reference I found via Google which took me to a site which appears to cover Cruck Houses and could be a valuable source of info when looking for old farms and houses .The Grid refs do not accord precisely with my maps . 1. Re: [ENG-NORTH-YORKS] Fryup/Glaisdale area
    2. Thanks to Harry I was able to locate with his directions finding these farms around Fryup area. Now Harry, I may have a connection with various names which you are searching... In Skelton, I have Jane Hodgson married May 25, 1819 to John Collier owner of the farm in Fryup Dale known as Bainley side farm. They immigrated to the USA shortly after this marriage. Next I will give you what I know of Jane Hodgson from family letters.-- a letter from Sebra Crudass (aunt of Jane Hodgson) writes that her brother has died and that was Feb 19, 1870-- I believe he was from Skelton.. Sebra Crudass (wife of John Crudass) is living at Little Fryup at this 1870 time. Do you see any connection with your search? 3. Hi, Does anyone know the village of Gayles? I have a number of families living there, late 18th-19th century, and I am putting together a little booklet for my father-in-law as they are on his side of the family. I would love to be able to add some photos of the village. (preferably old ones but that is probably wishful thinking!) I'd also like photos of West Street, East Street and Middle Street, which are still there, all of which are specific addresses mentioned in the censuses. Does anyone have anything that they'd be willing to share with me? The family name is MENNELL (also MEYNELL, MENALE etc) with connections to SHIPPEN, GLOVER & POUNDER. Now you have the 1841 census, if you get any earlier Myers, then there are some in the Gargrave parish records. The only one in my tree is Jane Myers:- "Francis WINN (102) married Jane MYERS (353), daughter of John MYERS (119) and (--?--) MYERS-M (38), on 5 Jul 1763 at Gargrave, Yorkshire, England." I did find some of her siblings though. It could be that your relations moved from Gargrave to Masham. Let me know if you want any Myers looked up in the parish records. JG
