    3. Hi Syl, None of my Bate's wandered as far as Liverpool!!! at least it would seem not before 1881. Even the 1901 census has them mainly in Rainhill, Sutton area. I would be interested to know the name of the Bate who married Ellen Hughes. Strangely enough Ellen is quite a Bate name! If you have any further details plese do not hesitate to write me again.     3. When my dad's brother James Hughes died in 1991 he left a will in which the living children of his brothers would received a sum of money. One of the recipients was Ellen Bate (nee Hughes). Ellen was the daughter of Leonard Hughes and she was living in Mossley Hill, Liverpool at that time. Does any of this mean anything to you? Syl - UK
