Hi Hella Welcome to the list I have a collection of old Liverpool Newspapers and have been putting a list of ships and captains on my pages at _www.old-liverpool.co.uk_ (http://www.old-liverpool.co.uk) but unfortunately mine are mainly all from 1811-34 so too early for you. Jane Campbell has later Liverpool newspapers and her site is: _http://www.old-merseytimes.co.uk/_ (http://www.old-merseytimes.co.uk/) Liverpool Record Office also has a large collection of old Liverpool Newspapers on microfilm perhaps an e-mail to them might yield some information. E-mail _recoffice.central.library@liverpool.gov.uk_ (mailto:recoffice.central.library@liverpool.gov.uk) They will answer queries on a first come first served basis and will often do a look up if it only takes approx fifteen minutes, after that they prefer you to use their research services and they charge for this by the hour. The British Library in Colindale London also has a large collection of old Liverpool Newspapers but they also charge for their services but once someone has paid they will e-mail the relevant article _http://www.bl.uk/collections/newspapers.html_ (http://www.bl.uk/collections/newspapers.html) Your English is very good by the way! Good luck Caryl In a message dated 30/07/2005 17:52:07 GMT Standard Time, menke-voigt@ewetel.net writes: Hi Listers, here my first posting to this list. I am working on reconstructing the time schedule of a german master on a sailing ship during the 19th century. This project means so much to me, because he was my g-g-grandfather, Master W. GREVE. At the beginning of my research I only knew the date of birth and date of dead. Now, after 4 years, a complet reconstruction of 50 journeys all over the seven seas has come about. 3 times he has been to Liverpool. Perhaps, somebody could do me a great favour and to have a lookup to a historical newspaper, including shipnews ( Arrival/ Import and Departure/ Export ). Maybe, a kind person has to study for himself at a library and could have a view to the old newspapers. I have found Arrival/ Departure of the ships at the german newspaper of those days, but nothing about Import/ Export. It would be wonderfull, getting more details by english sources. My English is not very fluently, sorry. For a better understanding, may I give you the dates. Trip 06 ( my g-g-grandfather W. GREVE was sailor (!) on the brig ) German brig GERHARD HERMANN, Master CLAUSSEN Liverpool, May 03, 1838 arrived from Hamburg. Liverpool, May 14, 1838 sailed to Porto Rico. Trip 26 German brig HENRIETTE, Master W. GREVE Liverpool, Sept. 29, 1849 arrived from Bremen. Liverpool, Oct. 29, 1849 sailed to Laguayra. Trip 49 German ship HERMANN DOCTOR, Master W.GREVE Liverpool, Febr. 25, 1866 arrived from New York. Liverpool, April 14, 1866 sailed to Singapore. I would be very thankfull, if somebody could help me. Greetings from Bremen, Germany. Hella
