As i am new to family history could someone please advise me on the best software to use to keep all my records on.it all looks like a bit of a mine field to me. Tom Harrison

Tom You'll find that most people have gravitated to a product that suits them best & so most people are strong advocates for the one that they use themselves. Personally I've switched various times between different packages & currently use Legacy. I've used Family Tree Maker, Brothers Keeper and The Master Genealogist in the past. I've ended up with my current package largely due to strong source tracking. I'd advise trying a few of them. I know that legacy offer a free download with extra add-ons if you buy it (although frankly the free version is absolutely fine). I'm sure that many other packages will offer the same so I'd advise downloading a few and trying them out. So long as they offer to import and export files in Gedcom format (the universal file format for family tree info) then you'll be able to switch your data from one system to another without having to re-key. Tom, The LDS (Later Day Saints - Mormons) have Free software for anyone to download and use, good to try out, they have a very, very large free Database, you don't have to be a Church member to use it, I have used it for years, and nobody has knocked on my door about it.
