The ancestory BMD records are mostly (the pre-1900 dexed ones at least) copies of the FreeBMD database which doesn't need membership. Signing up for the free account does require a first name a last name and an e-mail address which - forgive the cynicism - suggests they will pester the life out of you to sign up. I just followed the instructions and, surprise, surprise, it remembered me way back to a time when I signed up not realising that the majority of records would be US based. They didnt recognise my password, and offered me the option of changing my password which I did. They sent me an e-mail and a link to click on to get back and search for free.
