While checking the BMD for Ormskirk, Lancashire County , I discovered the following (who probably were children of Joseph and Susannah Nicholls, my great great grandparents) Births: Vol 8b, page 567-Joseph William Henry Nicholls, Mar 1864 Vol 8b, page 631-Adelaide J Nicholls, Sept 1866 Vol 8b, page 685-William Henry M Nicholls, Dec 1867 Vol 8b, page 723-Joseph Nicholls, March 1870 Vol 8b, page719-Susanna Nicholls, March 1871 Vol 8b, page 723-William Joseph Nicholls, March 1872 Deaths: Vol 8b, page 507-Joseph William H Nicholls, age 3, December 1867 Vol 8b, page 513-William Henry M Nicholls, age 0, December 1867 Vol 8b, page 586-Joseph Nicholls, age 0, September 1870 Vol 8b, page 756-Susanna Nicholls, age 0, March 1871 So much sadness for the family....I can't imagine! How/where do I write to get copies? (I am in Georgia, USA). If the couple were living in North Meols, where might the children have been christened? Where might the children who didn't survive be buried? [Joseph and Susannah Nicholls arrived in the United States in 1873]. At the time of the 1871 census in England, Joseph Nicholls and Susannah were living in North Meols, Lancashire County, England. [Township-North Meols, Municipal Burough- Southport, Municipal Ward-Craven, Town-Southport, Ecclesiastical district-Christ Church]. Joseph Nicholls was listed as head of family, age 42, painter, born in Liverpool, Lancashire County, England. Susannah, his wife, was age 38, born in Tranmere, Cheshire County, England Children listed were Adalaide Nicholls, age 4 and Robert age 3 (both born in Southport, Lancashire County, England).[Note: Robert Nicholls, my great grandfather, was said to have been born in Benares, India, July 1868/9. I have a picture of Joseph Nicholls in a uniform, probably a volunteer regiment, would be happy to scan and share] I am my family's historian. I enjoy looking for the family, and finding out more about them than simply names and dates. I appreciate any assistance. Hello Susan - North Meols is the old name for Southport, where I live at present. The Parish Church for Southport is St Cuthbert's in the Churchtown district.
