    1. MINIKIN in Birkenhead
    2. Patricia Smith
    3. Looking for some local knowledge in the search for the birth of Marion MINIKIN, born sometime between April 1854 and March 1855. Her father was a master tailor, George Minikin, and her mother was Bridget Minikin (both originally from Cumberland). In two census records she is listed as born in Birkenhead, Cheshire. However, in three other census records she is born in Liverpool, Lancs. Have searched for her birth registration for years in vain - doesn't help that "Minikin" is one of those names that is often misspelt! Have scoured a local copy of St Catherines House index for the relevant period, but unfortunately it is a handwritten section of the index, photographed in negative, and many of the entries are totally illegible on the microfiche. In 1861 she was living with her parents at 5 Old Chester Road, Tranmere, near Birkenhead, which leads me to favour Birkenhead as her place of birth. Can anyone tell me the name(s) of C of E parish churches located in or near to ! Tranmere and Birkenhead in 1854-5? There is nothing at the moment on the IGI, but I think church records are going to be my last resort. Thanks! Patricia Smith, Wollongong, NSW, Australia
