Please don't laugh but are the names Saul and Samuel interchangeable? I have just come across the name Saul SIDDORN as part of my family history but have never previously seen the name Saul in any references to the SIDDORN name. There do however seem to be quite a few records relating to various Samuel SIDDORN's. Can Saul be a shortened form of Samuel? Thanks, Alan
I have been transcribing part of the 1861 census and have seen Samuel shortened to Saml; William to Wm and Henry to Hy, so it's probable that Samuel Siddorn was so shortened and the handwriting mis-read.
