Hi John, These days, I'm more surprised to find any of my Wirral families being married in their home parish than popping over to Liverpool to tie the knot. It certainly seemed to be an extremely popular thing to do, possibly made it more of a day out when holidays were few and far between, and more of a 'do'; I've seen other reasons given too, maybe less costly and fewer questions asked than in the home parish, and, if the bride was in a 'bit of a rush' to marry, it would raise far fewer eyebrows in Liverpool than at home. Kind regards, Yvonne > From: eng-merseyside-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-merseyside-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of John Kane Sent: 30 December 2006 13:07 To: eng-merseyside@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] Powell connection to James Joseph Shipman Yvonne It all seems to check out doesn't it? But why this to-ing and fro-ing (before MerseyRail) between the Wirral and Liverpool though? Surely a St Peters in the Meols area of the Wirral wouldn't be described as St Peter's Liverpool. Why didn't Isabella get married to Joseph Powell or to Robert Youd in her home parish (maybe St Bridget's)? <
