Hi Pam, Yes, there is a connection between the Powells, Swifts and Birds. Jane POWELL (formerly HUGHES, nee McIVER) was the mother of Alice HUGHES (bapt. 1828, West Kirby) by her first husband William HUGHES. Alice HUGHES married William SWIFT on 8 April 1856, St. Peter, Liverpool. One of their children, William SWIFT, (born abt. 1859 Liverpool), also seems to have been brought up by his grandparents, Joseph and Jane POWELL. One of Joseph and Jane POWELL's daughters, also Jane POWELL, married John BIRD in St. Nicholas, Liverpool in 1868. They had children (so far, there may be more), Joseph Powell BIRD*, John Henry BIRD and Oscar Jones BIRD. William SWIFT (born abt. 1859) married his 3rd cousin, Sarah Anne HUGHES, (daughter of Thomas Hughes and Ann nee Harding), in 1889 in Holy Trinity, Hoylake. William SWIFT died 25 July 1898, and Sarah Anne remarried to Joseph Powell BIRD* above.
