    3. I'm trying to trace what happened to the printing and engraving business WH Evans in South Castle Street, Liverpool before WW2. It's found in the following Liverpool street directories: In 1900 Gore's Directory of Liverpool and Birkenhead, is listed under Engravers is William H. EVANS, 7 Hampden Buildings, 11 South Castle Street,W (not sure what W means) In 1911 Gores Directory there is a William H. EVANS, Engraver office 13 Hampden Bldgs, 11 South Castle St. Also the 1911 had: Thomas W. EVANS, Engraver (William H. EVANS) 83 Barndale Rd, Mossley Hill. ( Thomas Williams EVANS b. c1867 is the son most likely to have taken over the printing business from his father William Henry EVANS b. 1839 ) In 1938 Gores, there is a William H. EVANS Engraver 11a South castle St. A search for South Castle street seems to reveal a road full of manufacturing & skilled businesses including watchmakers, nautical instrument makers, printers etc. South Castle street, from looking at various websites, was all but destroyed in the May 1941 Blitz, shown quite graphically here: http://www.20thcenturyimages.co.uk/trolleyed/3/18/121/index.htm A search for Hampden Buildings reveals little. There is another W.H. EVANS printers based in Chester, although a recent conversation with one of their descendants has revealed that despite the same name, a similarly long trading history, and a very similar trade, they aren't connected. I am aware of Hugh EVANS printers 56 South Castle Street in 1942 (although how they traded there I'm not sure) and I'm investigating the name. Does anybody have any information as to what happened to the business W H EVANS or Thomas Williams EVANS? Thomas married Emily Jane Ellis 14.10.1899 at the Presbyterian Church in Catharine Street in the district of Liverpool. Can anyone please give further information on this church and where it was. Many thanks Nancy Milne
