Hi A relative James Pinkston was convicted and sentenced at Liverpool assizes on 27th November 1899,where he received six years for "manslaughter"and on his discharge from prison on 1st June 1904 was on license to The Discharged Prisoners Aid Society. Where could I find out details of his case such as the name of the victim etc. Regards Bill Rowlands South Australia
HI Bill, The records of the Assize Courts are held the National Archives, but Liverpool Record Office hold calendars of prisoners for the assizes from 1882- 1956 (ref: 347 QUA/3). They would also hold films of newspapers which would have printed reports of trials. You could email the Record Office for advice or possibly a quick lookup - which they will do at no charge if you have given enough information. The National Archives - research guides for Assizes. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=154 best regards Kathy Hoylake -----Original Message----- Sent: 01 September 2008 12:37 To: [email protected] Subject: [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] Details of Court case etc. A relative James Pinkston was convicted and sentenced at Liverpool assizes on 27th November 1899,where he received six years for "manslaughter"and on his discharge from prison on 1st June 1904 was on license to The Discharged Prisoners Aid Society. Hi Bill The victim was an Elizabeth LLOYD, aged a little over 30, with whom James PINKSTON had been living as man & wife for nine years after she'd been deserted by her husband. The case as heard in the Liverpool Asssizes on Monday December 4th 1899 and reported in the Liverpool Mercury the next day. You can read the article for yourself free on-line at :- http://access.gale.com/newstrial/ Enter the name James PINKSTON in the "Find" box and limit the results to after 27th November 1899. PS. You're not related to Sue Adams in Wodonga (Victoria) by any chance, are you?
