    3. Ok Marged - I'll send a message and perhaps the others will join in! My maiden name is MENZIES and I know that my father Edgar had a younger brother Arthur who, like my father, joined Liverpool Police. Arthur retired and drew his police pension for some years but I have been unable to find a date of death for him and unfortunately very little of his police details survive apart from the date he joined and retired! Arthur married Annie and I know they had at least one child, my cousin Arthur, who also seems to have vanished! Edgar and Arthur senior were the sons of Archie John Denys MENZIES and Mary nee HARRISON (married 1900). They also had a sister Alice, who as far as I know didn't have any children, not marrying until she was in her 70's. Archie was born in Stockton on Tees in 1875 and had a sister (Mary) Ethel born 1876 in Stockton on Tees. Again I know almost nothing about Ethel (she didn't use Mary) except that in 1901 she is shown on the census in Liverpool (24 Northbrook Street Toxteth Park) in lodgings, occupation Trained Nurse. Their mother, Eliza nee YATES is also in Liverpool on the 1901 census as a widow living in as a Sewing Matron in a Girls Industrial School. Did Ethel ever marry? And did Eliza MENZIES nee YATES remarry at some stage? Does anyone connect to either Ethel or Arthur? Archie John Denys remarried after my grandmother died (she was only 56) but I don't know if there were any children from this second marriage. 3. Hi Marged, I was taught to pronounce it as MINGISS - but I know there are regional variations - I am a life member of the MENZIES Clan and our "home" is at Aberfeldy in Perthshire although my branch of the Clan obtained lands in Dumfriesshire by marriage and my family hails from there. At the Clan gathering it is quite interesting to hear the different variations in pronunciation!
