Sorry Magdalen, but electoral registers are arranged by roads, not alphabetically. So you really need an address to look anyone up. Have you got a birth certificate for the daughter? That would give you an address. Or Ancestry have British telephone directories for that sort of period. Were they the sort of people who might have had a phone?
