I thought I knew the Scotlandspeople site quite well, but Robin has widened my view - I've never needed to look for whole families but his advice makes sense, and thank you Robin for the advice about cheaper vouchers from the Scottish local libraries - I will now ask my one if they know about it. I was responding to a general request about experiences from one Merseyside researcher. Happy to share insights on how we use scotlandspeople including getting response to problems Have also done occasional lookups or preliminary searches in return for work in other resources whether by an individual or others in a group. Units purchased in block of 30 for only £6 mean that it should be cheap enough for anyone to do their own online work One thing we learned early on was to spend the extra and widen a search and pay for all index entries for a family or at least make the count up to a full page of 25 .. Then as we came back to look for more of them we already had the full list over say 40 years for a county or in the case of HIRD we took the full 19 pages of index for all Scotland. Felt like a chunk to pay several years ago but means we can see those who strayed as we fill in the generations now. and for those of us in Scotland there will be lower cost units available through our local libraries .. This is already announced on the Glasgow Mitchell Library site .. Our Lanark library say it will have the vouchers in November.
