My Gr Grandfather didn't die in the war but fought through WW1 and WW2 WILLIAM THOMAS GILLEY b 20th March 1867 in Ermington Devon d 1949 82 IOW Joined The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry 1&2 jan 1888 aged 21 promoted to Corporal December 1891 became Sergeant in April 1893. C.S.M.July 1897 Discharged in April 1909 he re-enlisted in 1915 and served until 1921 his total service for the wars 27 years this was recognised by receiving the M.S.M was added to The Indian Medal 1895, with clasps for Punjab frontier 1897-8 and tirah 1897-8 also the Long service and Good Conduct Medals His Service in India was 1888-1900. In Ceylon 1900-1901. WT Gilley worked well through retirement at the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry Bodmin IOW (which is now a museum) http://www.lightinfantry.org.uk/regiments/dcli/duke_boerwar.htm His wife ELLEN GILLEY died 1901 in child birth buried Colombo cemetery /Ceylon,. Ellen also lost other babies so I Ellen lived in India due to her husband WILLIAM THOMAS GILLEY being in the army.
