    3. Hi Gordon I did not shell out megabucks as you said the cost was very reasonable much cheeper than a trip to London for myself the proof was to find out if he was not related to me as much as if he was. I think it,s a bit naive to call him a thug , I in no way condone the murders but given the alternative Join in or be thrown overboard not much of an alternative, who,s to say at this distance what we would do . The wife was not on board and there was only one child of 12 or thirteen  the age William was when he went to sea and he was the one who told Carr and Galloway the plans of  Captain Fielding the instigator of the plot he also spoke up on behalf of th child and took no part in his murder they were not in there beds but up on deck fighting for there lives( I have the benefit of the Book of the full trial transcript which was Kindly sent to me by a lister in Nova Scotia ) I am of the opinion we can,t hide the past but we can learn from it he is one of mine like it or not  P.S. the Trevaske family was one of 2 familys you kindly found for me on the 1841  I have not been able to tie them in yet there are several Trevaskiss in Canada again I have not been able to tie them in the search goes onRegards  George ----- Original Message ---- From: Gordon Evans <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, 19 July, 2008 7:40:56 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] William TREVASKISS, mutineer Hi George Not sure I'd be prepared to shell out megabucks to a London researcher just to prove I was related to a thug who'd butchered a sea-captain, his wife and an unspecified number of innocent children whilst they slept in their beds.  :-) The family someone on another list found for you in the 1881 Canadian Census, by the way, appears to be this one 30 years earlier :- HO 107/2181 folio 704 page 73 Crump Street, Liverpool Richard TREVASKE, 45, blacksmith, born Cornwall Martha, wife, 42, Cornwall Richard, son, 15, blacksmith, Cornwall Mary, daur, 14, Cornwall Elizabeth, daur, 12, Cornwall John, son, 10, Cornwall (says 12 in Census, but was 4 months old in 1841) William, son, 8, Cornwall Martha, daur, 4, Cornwall Thomas [Henry], son, 5 months, born Liverpool Looks as though they might have been on the way from Cornwall to Canada when the youngest was born in Liverpool? 3. Hi George I meant no offence in my post, and would be mortified to think that you might have perceived any. :-( To this 68 year-old pensioner "megabucks" is anything over £7 - the cost of a BMD certificate. :-) The "thug" tag was based on two newspaper reports from the Illustrated London News, posted on another list; you are obviously privy to more detailed information from another source, suggesting that there may have been mitigating circumstances (but they hanged him just the same?). Another poster on the same list gave you this family in the 1881 Canadian Census :- 1881 Canada Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario Martha TREVASKIS, 72, born England John TREVASKIS, 40, blacksmith, born England Thomas H TREVASKIS, 30, blacksmith, born England You asked the poster whether he knew where in England this John TREVASKIS was born, but I don't recall seeing any on-list response. So I endeavoured in my earlier post to demonstrate to you that Martha & John were born in CORNWALL, Thomas H in LIVERPOOL, since all three feature in the 1851 Census for Liverpool? PS. I've been called many, many things in my lifetime, but never (until now) "naive". :-) Best regards Gordon To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 20, 2008 1:04 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] William TREVASKISS, mutineer >Hi Gordon >I did not shell out megabucks as you said the cost was very reasonable >much cheeper than a trip to London for myself the proof was to find out if >he was not related to me as much as if he was. >I think it,s a bit naive to call him a thug , I in no way condone the >murders but given the alternative Join in or be thrown overboard not much >of an alternative, who,s to say at this distance what we would do .
