Hi Gordon, many thanks for your reply and yes we are related. My great grandfather Was William Leay 1850-1914 married Ellen McAllister, their 3rd daughter Elizabeth was my grandmother and her daughter Maud Elizabeth was my mother. Have attached a few sheets of info to clarify the relationship and would be most interested in comparing data with you. My initial reson for joining the list was, apart from finding living relatives, was for photographs. I have a photograph of Ellen Leay[McAllister] with her first 3 children. Also a photograph of Agnes Leay[daughter of William and Mary Leay[Oxton]. Ada Annie Morris[Leay] had a son,Bertie Langton Morris 1904-1991. I have a copy of his death certificate and it prompted me to look for relatives who may have a picture of my great Grandfather and his father Joseph. Check the small amount of data i've sent ,have loads more Cheers for now Taffy in cardiff > From: gordon.w.evans@btinternet.com > To: eng-merseyside@rootsweb.com > Date: Sat, 28 Aug 2010 21:08:12 +0100 > Subject: Re: [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] Leay-Morris family from Birkenhead and Bootle > > Hi Taffy > > Ada Annie LEAY (b1861 Rock Ferry) features in my family tree by virtue of > her being my 6th cousin 4 times removed. :-) > So presumably your great-grandfather is in there somewhere too? > > I have Ada Annie as a daughter of Joseph LEAY (b1813 Mollington) and his 2nd > wife Ann HUGHES, with siblings :- > > 1851 William (m Ellen McALLISTER 1871 in Birkenhead St Mary) > 1852 Elizabeth > 1854 James > 1859 Robert > > Plus half-siblings from Joseph's 1st marriage to Jane MAINWARING > nee GREGORY :- > > 1840 Ellen Rebecca > 1842 Sarah > 1844 Joseph > 1846 Thomas (m Ann COE 1869 in Liverpool St Peter) > > Joseph (b1813 Mollington) is believed to have been a son of Peter LEAY > (b1779 Burton) and Ellen nee WALTON, who married 28 February 1813 > in Backford St Oswald. > Peter (b1779) is believed to have been a son of Peter LEAY and Ann nee > WILSON (b1745 Burton), who married 13 April 1779 in Burton St Nicholas. > > This WILSON line traces back with reasonable certainty to a WilliamWILSON > and Cicely nee FELLS (born c1584), who is my 9 x great-grandmother. > > William & Cicely were grandparents to Thomas WILSON (b1663 Burton), Bishop > of Sodor & Man from 1697 until his death in 1755. > > Look forward to corresponding with you further should you consider we have a > genuine connection? > > PS. Hi Taffy Apologies for the delay in replying - due to my computer-room having been pressed into service as guest accommodation during the recent Mathew Street Festival. Many thanks for the detailed information you sent me off-list, although I'm afraid I can't oblige with any photographs of your LEAY family by way of reciprocation, as you'd no doubt have wished. My PAF relationship-calculator, by the way, tells me that you and I are 9th cousins (Pam Craven being your 9th cousin twice removed). Should you be interested in taking the WILSON line back further, I have the parents of Peter LEAY's wife Ann (b1745 Burton) as Jonathan WILSON (b1710 Burton) and Alice STREET (b1714 More, Flintshire) who married on 20 June 1737 in St Deiniol's, Hawarden, Flintshire. Alice (b1714) was a daughter of John STREET & Ann WILSON (b1680 Puddington, Cheshire) who married on 18 November 1700 in Neston St Mary & St Helen, Neston. Jonathan (b1710) was a son of John WILSON (b1664 Burton, Cheshire) and Hester ORRED (b1680 Storeton, Cheshire). Ann (b1680) was a daughter of Samuel WILSON (b1649 Burton) and Suzannah INGLEFIELD (b1655 Storeton) who married on 21 February 1680 in Bebington St Andrew. Samuel (b1649) was a son of Nathaniel WILSON (b1626 Willaston, Cheshire) and Alice BROWNE (b1623 Burton). John (b1664) was a son of Jonathan WILSON (b1630 Willaston) and Katherine BROWNE (b1631 Burton). Nathaniel (b1626) and Jonathan (b1630) were sons of William WILSON and Cicely nee FELLS, formerly SHERLOCK. I am a direct descendant both of Cicely SHERLOCK and of Alice & Katherine's sister Sarah BROWNE (b1628 Puddington) who married John LEATHER (b1632 Puddington) in a 'Parliamentary' ceremony in Chester on 4 August 1657.
