Just for information ----- Original Message ----- From: Ms Betty Fredericks To: Eng-Liverpool@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, September 15, 2010 11:21 AM Subject: [ENG-LIV] New List: CHILD-MIGRANTS-UK Hello, I've been given permission to announce a new List I started up. It is for discussing .all. of the "child migrants" which were either shipped out or flown out of the United Kingdom and Ireland. This "child migrant scheme" went on from 1860 to 1970 - about 100 years. And the children were sent to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, South Africa, Malta, etc. http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/UK/CHILD-MIGRANTS-UK.html * Please tell other researchers on other Lists about this new List. I've been posting about my great-grandparents for about 7 years. "Stanley" LEWIS and Mary CORKILL were born in Liverpool in 1859 and 1860. They and Mary's siblings went to the Liverpool Sheltering Homes in 1873 and all were shipped to families in Nova Scotia in 1874. I also joined the "British Home Children" List ~7 yrs. ago, and there are many stories to be read in the archives of that List. But, I couldn't find a List or Board where descendants could research all the children involved in that "child migrantation scheme." By the way, I've read that a great many of the maybe 150,000 children involved left the port of Liverpool in the County of Lancashire. Possibly they were on trains in Co. Lancashsire to get to Liverpool to get on the ships. I'd especially like the researchers on the LANCSGEN List to know about the new List. 3. Rather off-topic, perhaps, but both Stanley LEWIS and Mary CORKHILL (see original post) feature in my much-extended family tree. :-) If I'm not mistaken, John Stanley LEWIS (b1859 West Derby) was a son of John LEWIS (born c1836 Liverpool) and Isabella BURROWS (born c1830 LAN Skirton). John (born c1836) was a son of Richard LEWIS (born c1802 Shrewsbury) and Elizabeth TROUGHTON (b1806 CHS Heswall). The last-named was the eldest daughter of William TROUGHTON (b1780 Liverpool) and Martha WHITEHEAD (b1783 Heswall) who married on 25 June 1805 in Heswall St Peter and had children all born in Irby and baptised in Woodchurch Holy Cross save the eldest Elizabeth, who was born in Heswall and baptised in Heswall St Peter :- 1806 Elizabeth (m Richard LEWIS 2nd January 1826 in Liverpool St Anne) 1808 Ellen (m John YOUDS 6th October 1845 in Liverpool St Nicholas) 1810 John (d1831) 1812 Mary (m Henry DELAMORE 30th December 1836 in Liverpool St Peter) 1815 Sarah 1817 George (m Sarah ARNOLD 1846 in Liverpool) 1820 Martha (m Henry BATHER 1847 in Liverpool) 1823 Ann 1826 Margaret (m James YOUNG 10th May 1846 in Birkenhead St Mary) Best regards Gordon From: "Marged" <marged36@btinternet.com> To: <eng-merseyside@rootsweb.com>; <Liverpool-Memories@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 15, 2010 2:29 PM Subject: [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] Fw: [ENG-LIV] New List: CHILD-MIGRANTS-UK >Just for information > >From: Ms Betty Fredericks >To: Eng-Liverpool@rootsweb.com >Sent: Wednesday, September 15, 2010 11:21 AM >Subject: [ENG-LIV] New List: CHILD-MIGRANTS-UK > >I've been posting about my great-grandparents for about 7 years.
