Hi Gordon, While I can't answer for the rest of the states, it is the case for New York and I've found it very helpful for genealogy purposes. They request mom's maiden name for most legal documents. I have also found it to be true for anyone researching in France. Regards Eleanor In a message dated 9/22/2010 6:09:16 A.M. Wondered if any of our listers in the USA can confirm that it was normal for the maiden name of the bride's mother to be shown in American marriage registers at that time, given that this has never (to my knowledge) been the practice in England, even to this day? Hi Eleanor Many thanks for this. Seems to raise doubts concerning the theory suggested by George's friend in SLC ie that Esther TREVASKISS's maiden name was BOYN?
