Can anyone recommend any book on the subject of probate pre 1858? I have read the McLaughlin Guide on the subject but that is only an introduction. I also have 'Wills and Other Probate Records' by Grannum and Taylor which is mainly about sources of information and does not have the detail I require about how it worked. I am interested in not only what the law was and how it operated in practice but also in how it changed over time and what local variations there were. David
