    3. Hi George Although born in Huddersfield (c1831) neither of Jane's marriages took place there. On Lancashire BMD :- 1856 Edge Hill St Mary, Liverpool John ROBINSON and Jane WALLWORTH Ref :- Liverpool 2043WD/3/384 On Free BMD :- 1856 DecQ John Douglass ROBINSON and Jane Adlington WALLWORTH Ref :- West Derby 8b/618 Don't know if you're aware of this, but Jane's 2nd marriage now features on Lancs OPC :- 4 August 1867 St Bartholomew, Vauxhall, Lancashire John TREVASKISS, full age, shipping agent, widower, of 23 Hunter Street, and Jane ROBINSON, full age, widow, of 23 Hunter Street Groom's father : John TREVASKISS, mariner Bride's father : Edward WALLWORTH, book-keeper Witnesses : Charles WALLWORTH and Elizth CHATTERLLEY Married by Registrar's Certificate by C J FOX The witness Charles WALLWORTH was also born in Huddersfield (c1838). He appears to have married an Alice SCARISBRICK in Everton St Chrysostom in 1858, and in the 1871 Census was a 33 year-old heraldic & general engineer living at 46 Market Street, Everton. 'Your' John TREVASKISS of course features in my own extended family tree by virtue of his son John (b1844 Liverpool) having married Caroline TURTLE (b1847 Liverpool) in Liverpool St Peter in 1866. Caroline's first cousin once removed George EDWIN TURTLE (b1887 Tranmere) married my 3rd cousin once removed Elizabeth LACEY (b1884 Sutton, St Helens) in 1913. Elizabeth is a 2 x great-grandaughter to my own ancestor William EVANS (b1775) - believed to have been the first licensee of the Little Brighton Inn in Rowson Street, New Brighton - and a 3 x great-grandaughter to Hoylake fisherman Peter JONES (born c1743) and Elizabeth HUGHES, to whom many on this list can relate. 3. Hi again, George Further to my last post, just over two and a half years ago I managed to establish contact with a John DURHAM (b1938 Scalloway, Shetland Isles) who is a direct descendant of George Edwin TURTLE (b1887 Tranmere) and Elizabeth LACEY (b1884 Sutton, St Helens) via their daughter Kathleen Mary TURTLE (b1914 Heswall) who married James Robertson DURHAM (b1911 Schoolhouse, Lerwick, Shetland Isles) on 7 July 1937 in Heswall St Peter. As an old-time football supporter (albeit of Liverpool rather than Everton) you'll no doubt appreciate this extract of an e-mail John sent me in March 2008 :- >My parents met at the Northern Hospital in Liverpool where my father was >working immediately after graduating in medicine at Edinburgh University. >Occasionally the famous footballer Dixie Dean turned up on a Saturday >evening to get a minor injury attended to. No physiotherapists in the >changing room in those days. My mother was a nurse, as was her mother, >Elizabeth Lacey. Bit different to the 'pampering' which goes on nowadays, huh? 1. [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] William TREVASKISS, executed 23 July 1844 in Halifax, Nova Scotia

    3. George Highton wrote on this list on 3 January 2009 :- >If you come across a William Trevaskiss or variants in your travels please >let me know as he went to sea at about 12 years of age and was hanged in >Nova Scotia for Piracy and Murder on the High seas in 1844 age 22 in his >statement to the court he seys "I recieved what little education I have at >the free school in Liverpool" but no one seems to know which was the free >school in Liverpool at this time his Father John Trevaskiss was in Kirkdale >prison for Bancrupcy at about this time Hi George As you're aware I've long been sceptical that this man was part of our family - largely because 'our' William TREVASKISS (born 7 February 1818 in Stepney) would have been aged 26 in July 1844 whereas newspaper reports said of the four executed pirates 'oldest not over 23 years'. William was also quoted as having several relatives living in London, one of them holding an office in Guy's Hospital, whereas we know that 'our' William's parents (John & Esther) + his brother John (b1816 Stepney) were living in Liverpool when the 1841 Census was taken. However, I've recently stumbled across several pieces of information which have caused me to change my mind, beginning with this baptism :- 27 October 1813 (born 3 October 1813) St Mary Magdalene, Woolwich, Kent Elizabeth, daughter of John & Esther TREVASKISS Abode - Woolwich Profession - Corporal of Marines Followed by this marriage :- 8 April 1848 St Thomas, Southwark, Surrey James YOUNG, of full age, bachelor, carpenter, residence 23 Weston Place, Bermondsey, father Joseph YOUNG (deceased), mason, and Elizabeth TREVASKISS, of full age, spinster, housekeeper, residence Guy's Hospital, father John TREVASKISS, tailor. Witnesses were a James GILBERTSON and Sarah POPLAR In the 1841 Census :- Guy's Hospital, London James GILBERTSON, 50, labourer, born Scotland Sarah GILBERTSON, 50, born Scotland Sarah POPLAR, 14, born Scotland In the 1851 Census :- Guy's Hospital, London James GILBERTSON, 60, labourer & Chelsea Pensioner, born Shetland Sarah, wife, 60, born Shetland Elizabeth POPLAR, niece, U, 22, servant, born Shetland Elizabeth YOUNG, niece, 2, born Southwark, Surrey The parish registers of St Olave, Bermondsey, have this baptism :- 25 March 1849 (born 4 February) Elizabeth, daughter of James & Elizabeth YOUNG Abode - Guy's Hospital Profession - carpenter So the indications are that James GILBERTSON's wife Sarah (born c1791 Shetland) and John TREVASKISS's wife Esther (born c1787 Scotland) were sisters? And had nieces Sarah POPLAR (c1827) and Elizabeth POPLAR (c1829), also born in Scotland? Wonder if anyone on this list has access to Scotland's People and might be able to help us here? Best regards Gordon
