    3. Hi Gordon I had not connected the families as I had KAYE and KAY so they did not show up together in my legacy file. I have John marrying Margaret WALKER in 1890 she was born 1871 ST Johns Wood London Children of Henry HIGH TON 1836 and Elizabeth KAY Thomas James bap 4/5/1856 Tranmere St Catherine's John 25/1/1858 Tranmere St Catherine's died 1859 William Henry 24/1/1859 Tranmere S Catherine's died 1859 Richard 3/6/1860 Tranmere St Catherine's Eleanor Ann 20/5/1866 Birkenhead St Mary William Henry 1869 sthere is a death in BMD 1871 he was on 1871 census with them aged 1 Elizabeth 2/11/1872 Tranmere St Pauls John 14/9/1872 Tranmere St Pauls William Henry 18/1/1877 Tranmere St Pauls They seem to have had two Johns and Three William Henry's Interestingly I had William married to Alice HAMLIN 1897 Liverpool ST Simon she was born Everton 1897 So we have 2 William's married to two Alices but the B'head one could be right as he is listed as William Henry I have children from some of these marriages if you want to follow the lines a bit further. John's parents appear to have been Samuel KEY and Maria PLETTS, who married somewhere in Liverpool in 1838, John probably being the two-month old infant listed here :- 1851 Census HO 107/2175 folio 900 page 6 Albert Place, Tranmere Samuel KEY, 35, boatman, CHS Tranmere Maria, wife, 39, CHS Beamwell Elizabeth, daur, 7, CHS Tranmere Samuel, son, 5, CHS Tranmere Thomas, son, 3, CHS Tranmere William, son, 2, CHS Tranmere Infant, son, 2 months, CHS Tranmere. Maria looks to have died in 1855, aged 39 (Cheshire BMD). I have Samuel senior as born 1817 in Tranmere, baptised 13 July 1817 in Bebington St Andrew, son of Thomas & Elizabeth KAY. Samuel appears to have had a sibling James KAY, baptised 27 December 1812 in Bebington St Andrew, who married a Ruth Ann from Greinton, Somerset. In 1855, in Liverpool, James & Ruth Ann's eldest daughter Elizabeth KAY married Henry HIGHTON - younger brother to the Mary HIGHTON who married Thomas GILMER in 1850. Henry and Elizabeth (nee KAY) had the following HIGHTON children all born in Tranmere :- 1856 Thomas James (m Dora GIBBONS 1877 Liverpool St Nicholas) 1860 Richard (m Agnes BAIRD 1884 Kirkdale St Mary) 1871 John (m Margaret from London c1891) 1872 Elizabeth Ann (m John James GREEN 1892 Liverpool St Peter) 1876 William Henry (m Alice LYONS 1899 Birkenhead Civil) Henry HIGHTON looks to have died in 1897, aged 62; Elizabeth HIGHTON in 1902, aged 68 (reported as 63 in both Cheshire BMD/Free BMD). If I'm correct with all the above then Mary Elizabeth GILMER would have been niece by marriage to her husband John KAY's first cousin? 3. Hi Pam Henry & Elizabeth's daughter Eleanor Ann (b1866) died in the December quarter of 1871, aged 5. Their son William Henry (b1869) died in the same quarter, aged 2. Son Richard died in 1892 aged 32. There were two more children in addition to the ones you've listed - an Ann Elizabeth born/died in 1862, and an Ann born 1863 died 1865, aged 2. I'm afraid I don't agree with your John HIGHTON/Margaret WALKER marriage. Free BMD lists four names under marriage ref West Derby 8b/738 in the September quarter of 1890 :- HIGHTON John HOOTON Thomas WALKER Margaret WOODS Esther However, if you look at Lancashire BMD you'll find that Margaret WALKER married John HOOTON and John HIGHTON married Esther WOODS? Moreover, John HIGHTON is listed as single & living with his parents in the 1891 Census? Proof that Henry & Elizabeth's son William Henry (b1876 Tranmere) married Alice LYONS rather than Alice HAMLIN, by the way, lies in naming of the son born in 1900 viz Lawrence Henry HIGHTON. Alice LYONS was a daughter of Lawrence James LYONS & Ellen CUNNINGHAM. In the 1911 Census widowed Harry (William H) HIGHTON is living with his widowed mother-in-law Ellen LYONS.
