Hi everyone Thanks for the info Gordon. I always thought everyone in Hoylake was related to everyone else - they are all descendants of Peter & Elizabeth Jones! Incidentally, Samuel's sister Mary, married William Croxton. I am a also direct descendant of William's brother Joseph. His granddaughter Georgina Ross married Samuel's grandson Herbert Jones, whilst Georgina's sister married William R Croxton - William's son from his second marriage! Yvonne - I have Swift's on both sides of my family. My Dad's Swifts are all from Heswall, until about 1900 when my great grandfather Joseph Swift moved to West Kirby. My Mum's Swifts are from Litherland & Maghull. More articles about people from Hoylake mentioned in The Liverpool Mercury: 21st November 1894 - Joseph Armitage of School Lane, Hoylake was charged with using a fishing net of the wrong size. He argued with the judge & was fined £20 for disobedience & £5 for use of the net!. 4th July 1878 - article regarding a fatal accident involving Joseph Sherlock, 32 years, a carrier from Hoylake. He left a widow & 5 children. Julie
Hello Julie, Many thanks for your response. I've got the will of Henry Swift, butcher of Parkgate. Is he in your tree? > 4th July 1878 - article regarding a fatal accident involving Joseph Sherlock, 32 years, a carrier from Hoylake. He left a widow & 5 children. < I've just looked at this article. Very sad indeed. This Joseph Sherlock I've got as baptised 6 September 1846, Holy Trinity, Hoylake, the son of Peter Sherlock and Jane Silcock, my 3 x great-uncle, who married Mary Parr. Why didn't he just leave his hat in the road, instead of trying to retrieve it, and getting tangled up in the reins, and falling under the wheels of his cart? His poor family must have been devastated.
