    3. Well worth catching this on tv if you can. Previously unseen footage taken from an airship during WW1. I assume it will then also be available on BBCiplayer for a time in case you can't see it tonight Sadly that facility is only available in the UK Marged The First World War from Above BBC1 9pm Sunday 7th November The post-First World War landscape of France and Belgium is often described as scarred, and Fergal Keane's documentary illustrates this very vividly indeed. In 1919 pilot Jacques Trolley de Prévaux guided his airship above the ravaged Western Front, and the 78-minute film that was shot during the journey was recently discovered in army archives in Paris. Keane follows the line of the Front to marvel at the grim brilliance of the British tunnels under Messines Ridge, and walks through the trenches preserved by landowners. There's a surprise emotional punch as he visits Trolley de Prévaux's daughter in Paris. No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. Thank you Sue - I'll give it some thought. I have a little time before I have to decide Marged I think Ancestry is heaps better than GR. For a start, as a paid up member, you can search and look at other members public trees and read notes, see photos etc. My tree is not 'public' but the basic info can be seen and members can contact me to see if there is a connection and I can give them access if I want. I also think Ancestry has more searchable records than GR. Sue > No virus found in this outgoing message. 2. Gordon Evans
    3. Several people on this list may be interested to know that the oldest house in Wallasey is coming up for auction later this month - see http://url.ie/8274 According to the newspaper article the property is known locally as Bird's House after the builder, William BIRD. However, my youngest brother, who has researched the origins of this dwelling thoroughly over a period of many years, has a rather different theory. In 1682 a Thomas SHERLOCK bequeathed his messuage and tenement in Poulton-cum-Secum to his kinsman, William BIRD the elder. In the 1663 subsidy roll a Thomas SHERLOCK declared two hearths at Poulton-cum-Secum, which my brother firmly believes to have been in the dwelling now known as Bird's House. On 30 June 1628 a Thomas SHERLOCK married Margaret BIRD in St Hilary's church in Wallasey. My brother is convinced that Bird's House in Wallasey was in fact built in 1627 by the above Thomas' father - also a Thomas SHERLOCK - who married Alicia EVANSON on 20 June 1598 in St Nicholas church in Burton, ownership of the property passing into the hands of the BIRD family in 1682 only by marriage and the absence of any SHERLOCK progeny. Don't suppose we'll ever know for sure. :-( Best regards Gordon
