Hi Will I check my BT Ya-boo spam folder at least twice a day, and yes you're right - every now and again I've found a few 'genuine' messages which have been mistakenly shunted there. A repeat of a query from a few years ago: Annie Lester was born at Bootle in 1880. Annie was the daughter of John Lester, a butcher of New Brighton and his wife, Mary Agnes Estrigge nee Westhead. Mary died in 1883 and John in 1884 at the Walton workhouse. Annie then appears to have been taken in by her aunt, Mary Chadwick nee Spark. The last record I have of Annie is the 1911 census when she is described as a waitress and living with relatives in Seacombe. I am interested in what happened to Annie after 1911. Does anyone know anything of her? David
Hi Pam So the first sight you had of my DELAMORE/PENKETH/HUNTINGTON post (which I of course knew would be of interest both to you and to Eleanor in New York) was 24 hours and 51 minutes after I'd sent it? But just two hours & two minutes after my post complaining that RootsWeb appeared to be putting obstacles in our way? :-) It's been suggested to me that the 'problem' might be restricted to members with a btinternet address (caused by BT's purported paranoid & misconfigured spam filters) but as I've no means of checking this out I'm taking it with a pinch of salt. Someone in Ireland has very kindly sent me a copy of the will of bachelor Thomas DELAMORE of Chester, grocer & tea dealer, who died in 1848 aged 48. The principal beneficiaries are his five DELAMERE brothers, namely John, William, Daniel, Joseph and Jonathan, plus his sister Mary, wife of John SMITH of Birkenhead. The only other beneficiary of any note is his spinster cousin Alice PENKETH, who received five £27-10s shares in the Birkenhead, Lancashire & Cheshire Junction Railway, a gold watch & chain, twelve silver teaspoons and a pair of silver sugar nippers. This cousin appears to identify the testator's parents as Daniel DELAMORE (b1774 Upton-in-Overchurch) and Mary PENKETH, who married on 15 December 1794 in Neston St Mary & St Helen. Mary's presumed sibling John PENKETH (b1774 Oxton) married Jane HUNTINGTON on 16 November 1803 in Neston St Mary & St Helen - the two witnesses being an Ann HUNTINGTON and a William DELAMORE. When Daniel DELAMORE (b1805 Blacon-cum-Crabhall) married Isabella HUNTINGTON (b1808 Raby) on 13 March 1838 in Liverpool St Nicholas (almost 35 years later) the two witnesses were, coincidentally, a John PENKETH and a Jane HUNTINGTON! Daniel (b1774 Upton-in-Overchurch) is believed to have been the eldest son of John DELAMORE (b1753 Upton-in-Overchurch) who married Sarah BROWN on 28 September 1773 in West Kirby St Bridget. Hope this might be of some use to anyone with these names in their family tree. Regards Gordon
