    3. Hi Julie Sorry none of the 'cousins' I promised you on the Merseyside list have materialised as yet, but I'm sure they will given a bit more time and maybe just a little nudge. :-) If I'm not mistaken, you're a descendant of Peter & Elizabeth JONES' son Thomas JONES (b1779 Great Meols) who married Ann BECK (b1781 Kendal Westmorland) on 9 November 1801 in Liverpool St Nicholas and had children :- 1802 Kitty (m Joseph BIRD 1823 in Liverpool St Peter) 1803 Mary (m(i) Thomas HUGHES, m(ii) William CROXTON) 1805 Betty (m Joseph ARMITAGE 1823 in Liverpool St Mark) 1807 Peter (m Mary ROBERTS from Parkgate 1829 in Liverpool St Nicholas) 1809 William (m(i) Catherine ANDERTON, m(ii) Mary HARDING) 1811 Thomas (d1813) 1814 Thomas (m(i) Elizabeth JONES, m(ii) Mary, m(iii) Elizabeth 1816 Sarah (nothing known) 1819 Samuel (m Elizabeth STEENS 1840 in Liverpool St Philip) 1821 Agnes (d1821) 1825 Susannah (m(i) Thomas JACKSON, m(ii) John WILSON) Children of Samuel (b1819) and Elizabeth nee STEENS (your own line) being :- 1841 Ann (m Joseph PARR 1863 in West Kirby St Bridget) 1843 Thomas (m Effie NICHOLSON 1867 in Hoylake Holy Trinity) 1845 Samuel (d1868, aged 22) 1847 Mary (m Frederick SMITH from Staffordshire) 1849 William (d1850) 1851 Henry (m Esther YOUDS 1872 in Liverpool St Peter) 1853 Edmond John (bachelor) 1855 Frank (m Martha YOUDS 1877 in Hoylake Holy Trinity) 1857 Sarah Elizabeth (d1861, aged 3) 1859 Ada (m Samuel DEAN from Preston Brook in 1889) 1863 John (m Ellen Maria ROBERTS 1888 in Hoylake Holy Trinity) Henry (b1851) was of course drowned in 1913, when the Hoylake fishing smack FLEETWING sank after a collision in the River Mersey, as reported here :- http://www.old-merseytimes.co.uk/BETA2.html Lost with him were nephews Frank JONES (b1880 Hoose) and Edmund JONES (b1891 Hoose) - both sons of his brother Frank JONES (b1855 Hoose). Sole survivor from the FLEETWING was another nephew, Frederick Arthur JONES (b1888 Hoose), who I believe went on to marry Sophia Morris STONALL on 16 October 1922 in New Brighton St James?. One of only three survivors from the sand-hopper BETA, which also sank, was Henry's Liverpool Pilot 2nd cousin once removed Henry James EVANS (b1864 Liverpool), who had hitched a lift back into Liverpool on that vessel after taking a White Star liner safely out to sea.. Will be most surprised if some of the names listed above don't ring some bells somewhere - including in Melbourne, Australia. :-) Best regards Gordon From: "Julie Swift" <greenswift@hotmail.com> To: <eng-merseyside@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 19, 2011 5:40 PM Subject: [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] ancestors in the papers Hi there - I recently started looking through 19th Century British library newspapers online & found some wonderful information regarding my ancestors. 3. Hi there - I recently started looking through 19th Century British library newspapers online & found some wonderful information regarding my ancestors. I'm related to the Jones fishing family of Hoylake & found several items mentioning members of the family. This is one I found from The Liverpool Mercury , Friday July 11: "July 1, aged 103, Elizabeth Jones, widow of the late Peter Jones, of Hoylake. She has left between 200 & 300 grandchildren & great-grandchildren." Another news item mentioned a riot in Bangor, North Wales in 1841, caused by drunken fishermen from Hoylake & Liverpool, & I found my 3x great grandfather Samuel Jones, along with William Eccles, commended for bravery when he helped rescue a sinking Belgian vessel & saved several lives. Julie

    3. Alan there are 2 STOTT births registered at Birkenhead with mmn HARDING....William in 1917 and Mabel Isabella in Decebmer quarter 1918. William died 23 Jan 1918 but Mabel could still be his child. If you get her birth certificate and her deceased father looks like your William then you should have your confirmation. 2. Quite a while now since I last posted so fingers crossed for a good responce. One of the children of my g.grandparents William and Annie Stott (nee McNie) both of Birkenhead was William STOTT b.1893 Birkenhead. An Isabella HARDING b.1896 Birkenhead married a William STOTT in 1916 at Birkenhead. In a Commonwealth War Grave at Flaybrick Cemetery is a William STOTT b.1893 and died 23/1/1918 whilst demobilised from the RNVR Anson Brigade. I know that the William at Flaybrick is the son of William and Annie but am having doubts now about him being the husband of Isabelle Harding. I have a copy of his RNVR Discharge Paper and although his wife is shown as Isabelle the names quoted are STOTT and WALker. Is there anyone on the list who has family links to any of the above or anyone who can help at all. Thanks, Alan Siddorn
