    2. Tee hee. Back to the drawing board... Is it an option to send off for James's (1858) or John's (1860)'s birth cert, which would give the mother's maiden name and, if she was married before, the surname of Elizabeth ??, James's stepdaughter. Jess

    3. Strange how the power of suggestion works. When I saw the same entry yesterday I could have sworn it was Holley because that is how it was sent to me about a year ago and how I have been looking for it. Now, Jess, comes along and says it looks like something entirely different and I go back and look at the copy I have and sure enough...it doesn't look like Holley any more. 3. I have looked for Holley, Holly, Holy, Holey take your pick. I even tried finding the Elizabeth Holley from the 1861 census in the 1871 census by using wild cards on Ancestry...nothing. :( Thanks for your time in responding, Lainee At 05:44 PM 6/19/2005, you wrote: > Hi Lainee, >just a thought, Holley is a surname that could be easily mispronounced and >misspelt.. have you tried searching variations on it ? >I spent ages chasing Magers who turned out to be Magees ! >Kind regards >Mary -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. Hiya Jess, Thanks for your response! I had thought of that, but trying to figure out who yet another Elizabeth is overwhelming because I have been chasing the Elizabeth in the 1861 and all later censuses for ages! If they are two different Elizabeth's though, then the second one could have been married to a Holley...but I can find nothing on the net about a Holley that married an Elizabeth, nor can I find a James Barton married to an Elizabeth Holley. :( Thanks again! 3. In my ongoing search for the Bartons I had someone send me the 1851 and 1861 censuses. I am now more confused than ever. In 1851 James Barton is already married to Elizabeth Unknown: 1851 census index:- PRO piece no. HO 107/2187 Toxteth Park BARTON James 34 Timber Yard Labourer, Essex, Weverimbre? BARTON Elizabeth 36 Lancs. Liverpool Along comes the 1861 and it really gets confusing: 1861 Liverpool, Lancashire, England census James Barton 1817 Essex, England Head Liverpool Lancashire Elizabeth Barton 1825 Liverpool Wife Liverpool Lancashire James Barton 1858 Liverpool Son Liverpool Lancashire John Barton 1860 Liverpool Son Liverpool Lancashire Elizabeth M Holley 1854 Liverpool Stepdaughter Liverpool Lancashire Note the Elizabeth M. Holley, born 1854, stepdaughter to James...now how on earth can she have been born in 1854 when Elizabeth was already married to James? Thanks in advance for any and all help clearing this up! 1. 1891 census lookup for WILLIAM CROPPER
    2. sylvia hughes
    3. I am searching for WILLIAM CROPPER born 1856 in Liverpool. William was a 'painter' by trade. Also WILLIAM CROPPER jnr (plumber) born in 1880 also in Liverpool. I have searched every online place I can think of for this father and son. I think William snr's wife ELIZABETH died after the 1881 census and before the 1891 census was taken I cannot find a death for ELIZABETH either. I have the family in 1881 and again but without Elizabeth in 1901. Can anyone help? I don't know where else to look. Kind regards Syl - UK

    2. REPOSTING REQUEST FOR 1841 CENSUS LOOKUP This is a long shot but can anyone find HENRY BARKER on the 1841 census in the Lancashire area. I don't have a great deal to go on but I am hoping he is living with daughter Ellen aged about 20 years. I don't have a wife for Henry but other names in the family that have cropped up are Agness Barker (Agness never married) and Margeret Barker (could be Ellen's mother). Any of the Barker's could be associated with Stanton or Highet as Margaret married twice and had children from each marriage. I know its a lot to ask so I would be very grateful for any help. Henry would be my 3xgreat grandfather. Kind regards Syl - UK

    2. I am in the US and don't know resources for Merseyside. Any suggestions on how I might find information on descendents of: William Forrest, born ca 1878 in Liverpool, to Edward (Soda Water Manufacturer) and Elizabeth Forrest. William's profession was Musician. married 29 July 1909 at St. John's Church Birkenhead to: Wilhelmina McCallum, born 1885 in Birkenhead (John and Ada Duckett McCallum) Address in 1909 was 11 Princes St. Any likely musician's union? Would it make sense to try St. John's Church where they married? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you, Cynthia in California

    2. Thanks Caryl I will get in touch with the library and see what happens. Thanks for your advice. Although I have been trying to trace my family for a couple of years now I am still a novice regarding some of the research facilities. I know nothing about 'directories'. I have been concentrating on the on-line BDMs etc for England and Wales and LDS Films to research my Irish side to which I was guided by a lister on another site. I will now delve into the world of directories and see what I have been missing. Can you recommend a good starting place. Or if no electoral registers exist for those years then maybe someone could let me know the year of the first electoral register after the war. I am hoping to find my paternal grandmother living there at that time. Unfortunately I do not know the surname she was using. Hopefully it was McGOWAN. Also hoping to find my father there. However he did serve with the Royal Navy so he could have been away at electoral times. Pauline
