    1. The Florence Institute "Friends of the Florrie"
    2. Interesting site here about the Florence Institute. Has quite a bit of history about the Florrie "Friends of the Florrie" _http://www.savetheflorrie.org.uk/_ (http://www.savetheflorrie.org.uk/) "The Florrie, or Florence Institute, is a historic but neglected building in Liverpool 8. Members of the local community are trying to save the structure and to remember its illustrious past....." ".... The Florence Institute was officially opened as a boys' club in Mill Street, Toxteth, in 1890, four years after the opening of a similar establishment, the Gordon Working Lads Institute in Kirkdale on the other side of the city". For a hundred years The Florence Institute, or the Florrie as it is affectionally known by locals, served the young working and unemployed youth of the area...." I've also just learned from the author himself that there is a new book out illustrated softback book published, 'For Their Country', detailing the 70 men who are listed on the Florence Institute War Memorial in Mill St, Dingle - All proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the Florence Institute Trust Ltd. Apply to the contact e-mail address given on the website for more details and cost of the book or the above campaign Caryl _www.old-liverpool.co.uk_ (http://www.old-liverpool.co.uk)

I certainly appreciate the kind offer. I live in the US and will never be able to access the book.

    2. Janet
    3. I cant be there but thought to mention that I have purchased a marriage Licence there. I am wondering if I could ask you to remember a name, i.e. David KIRKPATRICK, born 1783, which date was had from his death record in Caldy Cheshire at the age of 54 which in fact was recorded on his youngest daughter's marriage; how considerate. I need a record of where he was born to be able to take the line backwards from 1783. There is every possibility he could have been born in Scotland, but I need to know for sure before going off on that route. When he married in 1818 he was a Master Mariner. When he died he was a Surgeon at 130 Park Lane, Liverpool. I probably havent got a hope in Hades but wont give up. Hope you dont mind my plugging in this name. I think our records should be placed somewhere so that they can easily be found. We assume that our successors will be interested and I would agree that the records, if they are worth keeping should be passed on to the family history society. It does make it more important to make a Will, and leave a note about records. > Coincidentally, I live in the Isle of Wight, but my searches, most of them relate to my Scottish family.
