Bob Taylor was the name of the man featured on the TV News tonight. Taken from his mother and put in an orphanage in Lancashire until the age of 10, he was then shipped out on the "Asturias" with a total of 931 children, and sent to the Bindu Orphanage in Australia. He is still searching to find out "who he is" Marged
Have just watched a news item on the 1pm BBC news, about a man called Jackson who has just come over from Australia looking for his family. He was sent to Australia on an immigration programme, didn't catch the date - probably 1950s or 1960s. Showed the children arriving on a ship - again I didn't catch the name but no doubt it will be on the Northern News again at 6 pm. Marged
Tim In addition to Rory's comment - I feel the consistency of posting your names is doing more harm for you than good. As soon as I see your e-mails, I automatically hit the delete button as it appears to be the same standard e-mail sent out on a far too regular basis. If you ever add anything new, I would miss it. . Sorry! Just trying to help. Tim, et.al., Seasoned listers do not post their information using generic titles. Put your subject matter and/or surnames in the list - pul.ease! Greetings from Canada I've subscribed to this list for a few years and again have to thank Marged for the help she gave me in the beginning and for generating my interests. I still read all the postings but I'm not active with genealogy these days due to hitting too many brick walls. My interests are posted again just in case. McVey (Liverpool, Bromborough, Hoylake, Hollyhead) nb: My grandmother Sarah Kirby married James McVey in Liverpool and they promptly changed the spelling to McVeigh, later they changed it back to McVey after the first two siblings, my aunts Martha & Amy were christened McVeigh the next five siblings were christened McVey. McVeigh (Liverpool, Bromborough) Kirby (Liverpool) Mitchelson (Birkenhead, Tranmere, Yorkshire) Cordrey.(Birkenhead, Tranmere, Northop, Mold) Thank you for reading. Ron
Well I get responses crosslist - ie responses to interests in Cheshire from people on others so it is worthwhile. Rory, I'm not a paid researcher. If I were to list name, the list would be huge. I could include dates but not sure what benefit it would add. Tim You consistently post your names on many lists but never give fore names or dates. This made me wonder if you are a paid researcher just trawling for names or a serious own family researcher. If so I feel sure with more definite info you would get more of a response and maybe help others on all your lists. For info. Ancestry.co.uk now has some images from telephone directories from 1880-1894. The first release is mainly London and large parts of Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Middlesex, and Surrey. you have to pay. I'm not on commission, just though you'd be interested as hopefully other areas will eventually be covered. Article is on the BBC news site http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/5360892.stm Sandra
