    3. Hello Tomas, Thank you for taking the time to answer my query and point out my mistake. Yes the penny has just dropped and I was about to put another note on the list explaining my mistake and asking for forgiveness LOL. So if I may be permitted can I please ask the list again for help in finding where Ann went to after Robert died in 1874 and please keep in mind she may have a son Edward aged around 9 (or not) with her. I have not been able to ascertain if Edward is her son yet. For anyone who thinks they might able to help re Edward he was born Sept. 1872, Birkenhead, wirrall, Cheshire. Thank you Carol/NZ P.S. The name is BALDWIN....Robert and Ann living in Birkenhead in the 1871 census. ----- Original Message ---- From: Carol Orr <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, 7 July, 2008 6:24:39 AM Subject: [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] BALDWIN Hello list, I am researching the name BALDWIN and am hoping someone maybe able to help. In 1874 Robert dies.In 1872 I think I found where they may have had a son, Edward Baldwin born in the same place. Where are they in 1881 and part of 1891 that is if the census was taken before she died. Was she living perhaps with her son Edward but then where was he. Being born in 1872 he would only be aged around 9 in 1881 and 19 in 1891. When ann and Robert married he was 67 and she 37. Ann was from wales originally. I have even looked in wales but couldn't find them but then she died in Derbyshire so she cant have gone back to wales. 3. Hi Wendy Pity you didn't mention in your original post that you'd already looked in depth at the 1868 Madeley marriage - could have saved me some un-necessary research. :-) >which is why the indexing being done by the volunteers now is so important Not just the volunteer TRANSCRIBERS, of course, since some registrars are now allowing volunteer CHECKERS to add mother's maiden name, spouse's surname & age at death at the transcription-checking stage where this information hasn't been included in the original indexes. 1. [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] Richards family for Gordon
    2. Wendy Bennett
    3. Hi Gordon, Thanks Gordon, all that you mentioned I have already searched into and got the relevant information. Francis' mother Mary was Ann's (who married Ball) sister. Surname Hazlehurst spelt in numerous ways. Their father William I think ends up in the workhouse later. The family in Dawley I have too. So I have all these links and the census and they all fit in as you can see. Mary Blackburn who dies in 1873, was with them as Mother in the 1871 census and the enumerator has made a mistake (why we do not know of course) but Sarah, wife of Francis should be Richards and not Richardson, after all Francis is Francis Richards on the bottom of the page. Why they should put Sarah down as Richardson I do not know. AS for Mary being married to a Blackburn is something I am looking into as she was a widow by 1847 when James Richards dies. But she may have remarried three times in all but as yet a suitable marriage to a Blackburn has not been found although I have a few that could be. I will look into this a bit more but it's an ongoing search on this one. I have this ref to a Mary: 1851 17 Wellesley St, Marylebone St Pancras , William Backarn aged 32 born Chester SHS, Mary aged 43 born Shropshire Horsehay?, Daughter Mary aged 12 born Stepney and John aged 10 born Mile End. All names match, all ages nearly match as well as places of birth. Francis is not here though nor is George Thomas . Actually Horsehay is about 1 and half miles from Dawley. which I think was Dawley magna years ago. This is the marriage in 1868 for a Francis Richards and Sarah Burgess 8th Nov 1868 The Birch Meadow Chapel, Broseley, Madeley, Salop ( Shropshire) Francis William Richards, 21, Batchelor, Moulder, Hodge Bower, Ironbridge, Father Daniel Richards, Moulder ( born abt 1844) Sarah Burgess, 21, Spinster, The Meadow, Ironbridge, Father Samuel Burgess, FurnaceTenter?, in Ironworks (Actually aged about 16years) I have checked these out and it appears very strongly to be NOT the right ones , the Francis is too young and the Sarah is too young also and there are other reasons why I discounted them, however never say never, but the details just do not add up. The only thing I can think of now is tht they did not get married or they are indexed incorrectly which is why the indexing being done by the volunteers now is so important, Thanks again Wendy

    3. Hi again Wendy Just realised that the family name in the 1861 Census should be BALL, not BALL, since the IGI has this marriage :- Kemberton, Shropshire 2 April 1828 Robert BALL and Ann HASLEHURST And these baptisms, all in Dawley Magna, all children of William & Ann HASLEHURST :- 8 August 1802 Franceas (named after paternal grandmother) 29 December 1805 Ann (married Robert BALL 1828) 17 May 1807 Mary (married James Monro RICHARDS 1839 in Bethnal Green) 13 May 1810 Margaret And the parents' marriage :- Dawley Magna, Shropshire 4 July 1801 William HASLEHURST and Ann COOPER So Stepney-born Francis RICHARDS' maternal ancestors were all from Dawley in Shropshire, the Mary BLACKBURN with him in the 1871 Toxteth Park Census being his mother re-married and widowed for a second time? 3. Are you sure of your facts? The Ann Baldwin who dies in Derby in 1891 would seem to have been the wife of a Samuel Baldwin - or that is how it looks from the census and Death Index. One consideration that you could look at is that a much younger widow with child might have remarried quite quickly, and a young boy might have been brought up with a different surname.
